Do you Challenge your Vocabulary?

When writing poetry do you stick to the life rule many of us have heard KISS? Or do you go out on a limb and challenge not only your own vocabulary but your readers? As a poet I love finding unique words that will compliment my poetry. I feel that every word has it's own unique sound. Some sound harder than others getting more emotion across.
I love challenging myself and my readers. I try to be careful so as to not overwhelm the readers. But if at least one reader had to open a dictionary for one part of my poem I'm satisfied.
So do you as the writer find some happiness in trying something new and going out on a limb? When and if you challenge your readers why is it that you specifically do it?

i always try to use words not used everyday. i actually go so far as to have a college word of the day. such as pertinent. or an actual factual of the day.

That's a pretty nifty way of doing it. Do you ever find that the word of the day inspires an entire poem?

I love to learn new words. I love using them in poetry. New words and phrases turn me into a better poet/writer in general. I've used the dictionary.com thesaurus any day for the last week, I'm can guarantee.
