Prime Minister Stephen Harper says he and his government will lead by example during these tough economic times. They will start by cutting salaries and 'perks' of mp's.
what a great idea! its about time that a government took the lead. it would be nice if more people that are in charge (even the ones in charge of GM, Ford and Chrysler!) followed the lead. what do you think?
do you think it was as ridiculous as it looked that the powers that be of GM and the other companies holding out their tin cup, wanting some cash from the government while they arrive in Washington in their private jets...LEAD BY EXAMPLE!

I agree that something drastic has to happen within GM. I live in a GM city. It's been a GM city for more than 100 years, and if GM leaves, we may end up like Flint. I think that everyone across the board should get a $1/hr pay cut. Everyone from the lowliest trainee (who gets $10-12/hr) to the CEO (who puts in enough hours to get $100 an hour). Not only will this solve the dilemma of how do we fire 1.8 million workers, but also of where can we find 3 billion dollars a year.

It sounds like you have a very wise Prime Minister. Yes, I think the leaders of the car companies flying around in their private jets and asking for millions of dollars to bail them out for making bad business decisions for the last 30 years is just absurd. I mean, nobody bails me out if I make a bad decision. What about all those homeowners that lost their homes and went bankrupt because they made bad decisions about their finances? Nobody's bailing them out either.
I hear the explanation that if the car companies don't get help, then our (US) entire economy will topple. Well, if that's true, then we have to do it. But still, I have a problem with it. I agree that leading by example is the best way to do it.

Hi cher, I couldn't agree more, the CEO's of all big corporations shouldn't take a Christmas bonus this year, that would be a good start. As for the Harper government, I'll believe it when I see it. I believe all party leaders have suggested that there be no raise for MP's, that is a good start as well. Blessings.

Don't be fooled!! It's just a stunt!!! Several years ago Chrystler got in a lot of financial trouble and needed to resort to a government bailout. They recieved the money from the government and afterwards they did a whole bunch of things to gain some positive publicity like making it look like they were making huge profits when they really weren't, they were just cutting costs in other areas. One of the things they did was cut the salaries of the guys in charge. The CEO even cut his salary down to one dollar. But it was just a stunt to get the public to pay attention to them and their company. The next year the company paid back all of their employees for the salary cuts from the year before and restored their original salaries. Those people didn't really cut back at all they just made it look like they did.
I thik that this is a complete publicity stunt and that you should be very weary of everything that you heard from the media. Be sure to do research.
I bet in a year they all have their original salaries and perks back even if the economy is still rough.
