Does anyone remember those 99 flakes? What happened to them? Boy do I miss em!

I just love ice cream but I will never forget the time when I used to rush out to the ice cream van with its music blaring away! I always used to order the 99 flake! I'm not a kid anymore and well, I'm not sure that the good old 99 flake is around anymore! You know the one I'm talking about: the ice cream cone with a blob of ice cream on the top and a stick of flake sticking out of the ice cream! I used to bite the bottom off of the cornet and then I would suck the ice cream through the bottom, a wonderful experience! Anyway, where's the 99 flake gone? Can we still get them? Andrew

They're still very much around! It's a shame that you haven't had one for a long time, but if you go to any ice cream van or cafe in a park then I'm sure that you'll find them, and be able to re-live your childhood memories, lol! I ate mine in much the same way as you. It used to get quite messy sometimes as the ice cream had a tendency to drip out the bottom. And I used to always eat the flake first. I probably would have saved it till last (as it was the best bit!), but you don't really have enough hands for that when you're eating an ice cream, so can get slightly tricky. (Plus I didn't have the willpower).

I'm sure glad to hear that they are still in existence! I think I will rise to the challenge and dance to the music of the ice cream van and grab myself one of those delicious cornets! Nowadays I sometimes shout deep inside myself, "turn off that hell of a racket", as I reflect on the music of days gone by! Still, I guess I favour the huge tub now which you can just store in the ice box! Andrew

Yes, go on, treat yourself! There was even a little sun today, so just the right weather for visiting an ice cream van. (If you can find one, lol!) Saying that, it'll probably be snowing again tomorrow... Well, I'm sure you'll find one somewhere, and that you'll enjoy it when you do!

I never experienced them. They sure do sound good, though! Was this something in the States or the UK? Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

They probably have them in the States but I live in London and I used to have them on a regular basis as a kid! I would take the chocolate flake out and start munching on that first! Anyway, there you go. Andrew

They actually sell flake cornettoes! You know the cornetto! Well Cadbury's do a flake version of it, look in the dessert fridges in Tescos or Sainsburys and you'll see them, box of four and sometimes they have them on special offer too! Although I prefer a Mr Whippy LOL!

It sounds like something from the UK because I don't recognize any of the stores you mentioned. Unless, of course, they are in another area of the country, but, since the both of you are from the UK I doubt that they are from any area of the US. Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija

Have no fear my friend, yes, they do sell flakes, you can even buy them in packs of four from the local supermarket, buy them singularly from the sweet shop or in Iceland I believe they still sell them in boxes, the ones you used to get in your ice cream! Not that I have bought one from an ice cream van but I have seen people buy 99's from ice cream vans down the coast, certainly in Bournemouth! There's something special about the whipped ice cream from those machines isn't there! Fond memories of those on the Summer holidays.

I fear that that is a time never to be repeated! Maybe it's just me but I would be embarrassed to run along to an icecream van nowadays! That music is just so cheesy! Anyway, I may venture into the world of iceland at some point in the new year! Andrew

It's nice to be naughty every now and again I guess!! I'm glad they still do those lovely cornets! I actually remember something about that advert although I've forgotton the details! I think that it was quite a funny advert wasn't it? Anyway, I shall have to pick up another 99 and hopefully I can relive some of those happy memories! Andrew

Haha. Sorry for rubbing it in Andrew. I had one an hour ago from my ice-cream van. Yes! He still does these wonderhul whipped ice-creams with the beautiful 99 in it. Are you from Belfast? Not many people call them 99 flakes. I will buy you one tomorrow night when the ice-cream man comes around again. You could make your own one too. You can buy the 99 flakes in ice-land and tescos. Well I did a while ago. thanks for this discussion. Take care.

You are a lucky so and so! I'm glad to hear that those 99 flakes are still alive and kicking though! I'm actually from good old London but I do have some Irish in me, lots of family in Dublin you see! That's wonderful, you can send me a cyber 99! May you enjoy many more 99s to come! Andrew
