I was so worried that I wouldn't be able to make this a memoriable day for my children. We weren't able to get our turkey until 1:30 this afternoon, as Monday I was in the emergi care with my 4 year old daughter. She has strep and the flu, so I rushed her home to get her all snuggled up with me. Smart move on my part because I woke up wedensday with the same symptoms. Anyway, we got the turkey home cleaned and seasoned and put to bake at about 3pm. I knew it wasn't going to be done till late so I tried to pass the time with my 9 year old son. He was feeling down because this year it was just us 3. No friends, the occasional forwarded text on my phone saying "happy thanksgiving" who knows who the text originated from, most likely from someone I don't even know. No phone calls from my family which isn't something new, but this year it was very lonely, as their dad is in jail. So my son wanted to go to bed at 5pm because he said we weren't going to have a thanksgiving this year. I told him that this was a more special one since it was just me him and his sister, there would be no traveling from place to place and getting home late, it was special because we have more to be greatful for than alot of others even if it isn't that much. I felt in my heart that I was feeling the same way he was but at the end of the day we stuffed ourselves until we couldn't move after of course saying a lenghthy prayer of thanksgiving for not only what we had but what we could offer to others, kindness, love, and support, and watched movies until both children fell asleep.

I'm extremely gratefull. Without them I would not be who I am today. I owe everyting to them and the good Lord for blessing me with them. They are gifts which I asked for and I did recieve. So maybe it wasn't what we were used to but it may have been the start of our own tradition. Right?

You're Thanksgiving story is very touching. I'm sorry to hear that you're son was upset because it was only you, him & his sister. But a lot of people don't even have that during the holidays sometimes. You are very blessed! My Thanksgiving was pretty good but different this year because me,my son and my husband all have bad head colds and we didn't get as fancy this year with our Thanksgiving cooking because of me and my husband being sick, like instead of real potatoes, we made instant potatoes, instead of my husband smoking our turkey in our smoker,he cooked in the regular oven, instead of home made stuffing, we used "Stove Top"..LOL..I'm so Thankful for my family and I hope we have many happy years together as a unit. I hope you and you're daughter start feeling better soon, it seems like everyone lately is getting sick . .. Happy Holidays!

Thank you for your response. I'm glad I'm not the only one who had an odd thanksgiving. I wish everyone could have a perfect holliday, but what is important is to make the best out of what ever situation and be thankfull for what we all have. I did the same execpt I did use real potatoes. I let my son help me cook so it wasn't to bad and it made him feel like he was a part of it instead of thinking it was just about eating, he know knows that when you put thought, time, and love into doing something it means more.
