Error in DOS Partition

For some reasons I need to setup a PC (Pentium 4 2.26 GHZ with 8o GB HD and 256 DDR RAM). During making a DOS partition i had observed that ony 10 GB is available for me to partition. I tried several approach including making partition in WIndows 2000 and format it at FAT 32. But everytime I tried to setup it in Win98... Only 10 GB of my HD can be partition and it says that it is the 100% disk space. What's the wrong with my PC? is my HD or MOBO is defective? Can you help mr guys?
