What are the different ways you collect or gather information?

There are times when I've just gone to the reference section of the library, grabbed a book and started reading just to learn something. I also like to subscribe to the latest news e-mails for alerts on the newest trends, inventions, or knowledge. What are ways that you collect information? Do you have specific websites that you visit and if so, what are they? I'm really looking to branch out in other directions with my information gathering, so any tips are appreciated.
