Do you know someone at work that likes to hog shifts?

I do! I am on call this weekend incase someone calls in just because my family could use the money to pay off some extra bills this month. The reason for this is because at work we have this sign up sheet for shifts and because I had my days off it got filled up by others putting their names down for them. One of my co-workers likes to hog most of them. She has 11 shifts in a row. She use to do this to other people and get them angry because she would end up calling in sick for most of them anyway. It's just nice to know when you're actually scheduled ahead of time instead of being on call and wondering if you will have to go into work or not. So no making plans incase work calls. I'm very angry at this one co-worker for doing this. It's not like she will probably show up for them. Do you have someone at your workplace that is greedy?

i usually had the reverse-they'd hog days off,and i'd get stuck with extra shifts. (which i normally wouldn't mind, but not with a sick mother) the boss would have us write requests for days off on the calendar, and if she saw i needed it off,she put her name there too.

did it go by senority where whoever worked there longer got it? Our work does that. There's a sign up sheet which I usually end up missing out on. The supervisor who decides on who should get the shift if there are more than one names signed for that certain shift is pretty fair about it and will split them up equally so it's not too bad in that sense. Next time that sign up sheet is out I'm going to sign up the same as that other girl did so she won't get them all. Thanks for your comment

My job is very same everytime I work but they always make other changed when it comes to the scheduling and rules. If that makes sense. I work in a nursing home and we pretty much just have to do checks on them every 2 hours then in the morning at 5am we start getting some of the residents dressed for the day. There is maybe one or two people that like to get up and out of bed every morning. I guess they have their rituals and patterns. It's like that every nightshift. This co-worker has more chances to look at the shift sign up sheet than I do because she's there more then I miss it. That's only because I don't have as many shifts as she does. I can't afford to drive 1/2 hour away and waist gas with my truck where she lives right in town so it's not fair but she knows that I need shifts and she's hogging them all. Thanks for your comment

SOunds like when I worked at the shoe factory and I was the head packer I was so busy I didnt notice that one girl was getting tickets off the racks and when I ran out of owrk I had to stand and wait till I noticed what she was doing so the next rack that came down she started for it I jumped one rack got the ticket then knocked her booty into all the packed shoes and she had to re do them! You might just have to figure away to see it before here even staying awhile longer after your sihit is over with!

If I had a job where I could hog the shifts I probably would too I would turn up if I did though and I do not think it is fair that your colleague claims all the shifts and doesn't turn up to do them. Surely next time she should not be allowed to put her name down for them?

This is why they will not grant her the fulltime position she wishes for all the time. She makes it seem like the administrators are out to get her. I wouldn't want to work 11 shifts in a row but if I could have a couple of them I would be happy. Thanks for your comment
