Death Penalty

Fellow MyLotters, what are your views on the death penalty? In a way I find it disgusting and inhumane, but for someone who kills another, shouldn't they be put to death as well? Is the death penalty more humane than locking one up for the rest of their life, or is it the other way around? Ponder this, and the quote by Jon Manning "If someone is lined up for execution then they more than likely deserve it. They have caused a great deal of grief to the family and friends of the victim or victims and it seems the only way justice could be served is for the criminal to die. For the person to simply go to jail seems unfair. There they will eat three meals a day, get to watch cable TV, and befriend other inmates. They live a pretty decent life in prison and they don't deserve it."

I don't think prison is a piece of cake. I would consider it very difficult and if anyone gets rehabilitated and learns the lessons of his crime then he could become a useful member of society. Sadly, this is easier said than done and the prison system has not been effective in rehabilitating inmates. What can we do?
