Has anyone been able to join the forces despite having asthma? I was turned down

This is many years ago now but, I so wanted to join the Royal Navy but I was told that I had to have a clear chest for five years! I was in control of my asthma and I thought that I would be able to do something in the Navy that would not affect my asthma! Anyway, I was refused. Have you ever been in the forces with asthma? If so, how do you get past the selection process? Andrew
