Service men and delivery men...

I have been waiting for the delivery man to come and bring me a package. He was by on Thursday and I missed him. Then he left a note stating that he would be here between 2 and 5 on Friday. So I sat at home except for the 20 mins that I had to go pick up my kids. Well of course he came when I was getting the kids. So now I have had to make other arrangements so someone can get my kids for me so that I can get this package. Do you hate waiting? Don't they always come at bad times or is it just me?

The Delivery Man - Some will leave it some will not
When we lived in California if it came by mail and we weren't home we would find a yellow form in our box to go to the post office and pick it up. Now since we are in South Carolina now the mail person and the UPS and even Fed Ex if we are not home they will leave it on our front steps. We have friends that are on the go all the time and they put a note on their door for the delivery people to take their packages to the neighbors if they are not home. So if you have a neighbor you are good friends with you might want to do this or tell them to leave it at a certain spot on your property. I don't know how close houses and things are where you are so dunno if you would feel comfortable for them to do this. Have I had the same thing happen to me? Yes when I was in California.

It is hard to get deliveries scheduled right. Things happen like your having to go pick up your kids. And while this may sound harsh -------- it was not the delivery service fault that you were not there, they came within the time specified. I can't imagine how hard it must be for schedulers to figure how the time of somethings arrival. MOST delivery persons are very helpful, most that have come to my home take one look at me with my quad cane & oxygen tubing and they carry packages into the house, setting them where I can easily open and handle them. Those folks don't have to do this, they aren't paid extra for doing it and most of them will not accept a tip for doing it. A few calls like that on a route can really slow down their delivery time. My advise would be that if your life is so busy that waiting a few hours for delivery puts you into a cramp then maybe you could hire a house sitter to be there while you are off doing other things. And yes, I know you don't want just anyone in your home while you aren't there, but you could sorta plan ahead and have a reliable person lined up.

I owe you an apology--------your point was hating to wait for deliveries and I was defending the time slots given by delivery companies. It is hard to wait, often seeming as if the time is wasted. I personally take that time and do a little bit of handwork, like crochet or knit. You could indulge in a good book, or music. Maybe prepping for a special food dish. Don't let the schedules of others rob you of the joy of living.

For the two days that I missed him I had a time line of 2:00 to 5:00. And he came in the 20 mins that I was gone. The second day I was gone I left a note. The third day he came it was at 2:30. So he can make my delivery first or last so yes it is sort of his fault.

I've been there. I don't have kids, so it isn't as inconvenient for me. But I've purposely stayed home to wait for a package, and then when the delivery person doesn't show up in the time stated, I'll leave. And sure enough, the thirty minutes I'm gone, he shows up. And I get the note that I have to go to the post office to pick it up now.

You have to wait for you delevery man to come usally he just leaves it on the front door for me but thats because I order from amazon.com so I guess if you need to sign something then I can see why you have to wait for him.

For many it is the scenario. Normally delivery and service man are paid employee with much less responsibility. They get the list from the office that they have to deliver or attend at so and so address between this time and they try to adhered to that. Service and delivery man are send by the company and probably the companies may increase their reputation by being more careful to this issues. They can inquire specific information from the customer to ensure that their personnel reaches the customer on priority basis and avoid other hassles for the customer.

i can see that between 2 and 5 in terms of hours its a lot. if this was a precise time then i would say your wrong but 3 hours difference thats a lot for sure. but its also your fault because you missed the first delivery. only if you have a valuable excuse. the service should be asking you what time they can deliver not what time they are coming. i don't like waiting mainly if something i like the most is being delivered. i just hate it. but sometimes we need to be patient. anywa i hope you get your delivery.

I did get it. On the third day they brought it at 2:30 instead of between 3:10 and 3:30. Thanks.

I know exactly what you are talking about! There are some other bad timing things that happen to me too. Like I'm always in the shower or the bathroom when someone calls me on the phone. The phone will not ring all day till I'm in there! Someone always knocks on the door when you haven't yet changed out of your pjs. Guests will always drop in unexpectedly when your house is a disaster area. Conversely, when it is spotless, nobody comes over!
