I love watching inspiring and motivational movies and as a woman I find movies that have a strong female hero to be especially inspiring. Some of my favorite movies are G.I. Jane (I know it was probably unrealistic but Demi Moore's character really motivates me to strive to reach my goals), V for Vendetta (Natalie Portman's character finds strength in this movie), and Mr. and Mrs. Smith (do I really have to explain why I love Angelina Jolie's character?). I am currently looking for more movies to watch that have similarly strong female characters. I usually watch action type movies, but I am not picky about the genre. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.

For kick-a** heroines the first that came to mind is Siguorney Weaver's Ripley of the Aliens series. I think she was one tough cookie. Next would be Linda Hamilton's Sarah Connor in the Terminator series. And probably more recently Uma Thurman's "The Bride" in the Kill Bill movies. If you don't mind martial arts movies, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and House of Flying Daggers, have very strong femal leads. Also Kate Beckinsale's character in the Underworld series is also a strong character. I'm sure if I think more, I'll come up with more ideas...but so far those are what I have. Love the discussion by the way.

From the top of my head: "Erin Brockovich": It's one of Steven Soderbergh's best films and it has Julia Roberts in the title role. It's the true story of a single mother who became a legal assistant and helped bring down a company that was polluting water. Probably the best recommendation I can give according to what you asked. (although it's not an action flick) Other good examples are the Alien series. I mean, Ripley, who's tougher than her? And "Run Lola Run" also has a strong character, but it's a pretty weird, German film. Other than that, I'd have to dig into my brain and try to remember more movies with female leads. Rich

There are two more movies, Double Jeopardy starring Ashley Judd and Brave One starring Jodie Foster. Warning both of these films are dark and violent films but the lead role is a strong woman.

Thanks for the response! I'm not sure which movie that you are talking about with Halle Berry, but I do know that there is this great movie called "Enough" with Jennifer Lopez. In this movie Lopez gets married and has a kid, but then her husband starts beating her and cheating on her. Lopez tries to run away, but the guy won't leave her alone because he wants his daughter. Finally Lopez confronts him in the end and eventually kills him and claims self defense. This movie is really great and it motivates me alot.

V for Vendetta. By far this movie surpassed my expectations for Scarlett Johanson's role. The graphic novel was simply amazing, and for a movie interpretation I must say they had done a great job. Here is the synopsis straight from Wikipedia: Set in London, England in a near-future dystopian society, the film follows the mysterious V, a freedom fighter seeking to effect sociopolitical change while simultaneously pursuing his own violent personal vendetta. The film stars Natalie Portman as Evey Hammond, Hugo Weaving as V, Stephen Rea as Inspector Finch and John Hurt as Chancellor Sutler.

I loved this movie too and I wasn't even aware until after I had seen it that it was a graphic novel. Natalie Portman's character is very inspiring and the character V actually makes me want to read more and watch old movies.
