Tomorrow is the run-off election between Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss and Democratic challenger Jim Martin. The Rasmussen poll shows Chamblis ahead of 4% with 3% undecided. Turnout may be the key, which could favor Chamblis since many Democrats in Georgia who turned out to vote for Obama may be less inclined to vote in this special run-off. Sarah Palin held four rallies for the Republican today in Georgia while many Democrats have made appearances for Martin including Bill Clinton and Al Gore.
Does anyone have any predictions as to how this will go? If Martin wins that will give the Democrats 59 in the Senate with only one more seat needed for the filibuster-proof 60, which would mean the Coleman/Franken recount in Minnesota will be the final deciding factor. I'd especially love to hear from Georgia voters on this since you would have inside information on how many voters you think will actually show up for this election!

Ah, well, since Palin showed up I'm sure that Chambliss is a shoe in...I don't know I assume it would depend on how the people feel about him and Martin. I'm sure that super red state will stay red. Maybe next time lol

One guy on the news tonight that was at a rally where Palin was said he just went because she was there and when the reporter asked why he liked her so much he said, "She's hot." He'd probably vote for her if she ran for President in 2012 for that reason too!

"Annie, I'm sure you're intelligent enough to know that there are far more people that voted for Obama because he was black than people who voted for Palin because she was hot."
Gee, Taskr, I was just pointing out what I heard this one person say! However, since you brought it up, sure there possibly were more people who voted for Obama because he's black than voted for Palin because she's hot but that's because far more people voted for Obama in total! It would be interesting if we could REALLY know the percentages there. I'd bet a higher percentage of those who voted for Palin did so because they found her physically attractive than of those who voted for Obama because of his skin color.

Annie, I'm sure you're intelligent enough to know that there are far more people that voted for Obama because he was black than people who voted for Palin because she was hot. Most voters focus on meaningless and superficial crap over relevant issues.

Hi Annie, you are right that turnout is the key. I voted last week during early voting and the line was a hour and a half long which is almost unheard of in a run-off. So I think some are realizing the importance of voting in the run-off. According to the last numbers I heard most of the voters that are showing up are Republican. Which doesn't surprise me given that GA is Republican majority. Martin has been hard at work campaigning, I have gotten several recordings from local politicians. I am just hoping that the turn out on tomorrow is better than expected.

I will be sooo glad when this is over. I live real close to the georgia border so my local tv has been non stop commericals about these two and I do mean just about non stop. It has gotten mean and dirty. You would not believe the things both sides have said about the other. I think the fact that it is a special election and not a major one will mean fewer people will show up. Plus the fact that it has gotten so negative on both sides has really started to turn people off. Or at least the people I know in Gerogia are telling me that and the local news. Mostly I am hearing that they will be glad when it is over.
It will interesting to see what happens.
Personally I would like to see Saxby win just for the sake of balance. I did not like it when the republicans had just about complete control of congress. And I do not like the idea of the democrats having that kind of power either. I would like to see a balance so that all sides are resprented and that they have to COMPROMISE and work together to get things done. That way the bills passed are more in the middle and the majority of America can be happy with the compromise.
We should learn from what happened when the republicans ruled congress. The power went to their heads and they forced through a lot of BS that most of America was not happy about(reupblicans and democrats). They did not have to worry about representing everyone because they just about had the numbers to do what htey want and they did...and they are now paying for it. Hopefully the democrats now that they have a decided majority will learn from that lesson and not let it go to their heads.
