Which is better to use Sanitizer or Alcohol??

I am just wondering if which one is good for the skin or health is it Sanitizer or Alcohol?? Well, I am always using Alcohol if water isn't available especially if I felt that my hands are dirty.. Is it good to used alcohol as an alternative of washing your hands?? Or Sanitizer is more safe to use that alcohol?? Which one are you using?? Any opinions please!

I keep several bottles of hand sanitizer around our house and one with me so that I can always use it if needed. With winter here, so is cold and flu season and if my hands are always clean then at least I know I'm not passing it along.
