Are you a left handed or right handed person? Majority are right handed but lately I have seen many people who use their left hand more. So I was verrryyyyyy curious to know how many of us here on Mylot are left handed and how many are right handed. I am a right handed person.

I'm right handed and I'm terrible with my left hand. My husband is also right handed but he uses his left hand a lot more then I do.

Someone told me the other day that only 10 percent of the population are left handed. I am right handed. Isn't it funny that back in the 'old' days, people thought left handed people were more likely to become criminals? Talk about superstition!

Actually, this superstition is true. For centuries the left side has been associated with evil. That's how certain words and expressions came about like "sinister" (in Latin it literally means "on the left hand side"), a "left-handed compliment" (one that is insincere) or "being in your right mind". And the superstition of throwing a pinch of salt over your shoulder for good luck--you always throw it over your left shoulder, into the face of the Devil. Thank goodness times have changed!

Oops...I just re-read my post and realized it didn't sound the way I meant it. I only meant to say that it is true this superstition existed, not that the superstition is based on fact in any way. My bad...

: ) I don't think it sounded bad. We know what you mean. I sometimes though post something and then think, uh-oh, they may take that the wrong way!

I'm a righty Daffodil! I rarely seem to see many left handed people either these days? I doubt it is a rarity or anything, but I just don't come across them that often. I remember reading something a long time ago that was stating that left handed people tend to be more creative than right handed people. I have no idea if this has been categorically proven or not.

I execute most of the tasks through my right hand. I am a right handed person. However, I try to do some smal tasks through my left hand e.g. opening a padlock with a key. I may add here - those who are right handed persons for them left side of their brain works and those who work through their left hand, for them right side of the brain works. Most of the people are right handed, therefore, whenever we notice a left handed fellow, we become curious about him (atleast me).

I am a right handed person however when I was in elementary school ( I won't say how long ago that was:) ) I had injured my right hand and had to use my left hand. Because of that I was able to learn to use my left hand. To this day if I have to I can write with my left hand! If I had to something tedious then heck no it would have to be the right hand! I am right handed. I HAVE to use my right hand. My left hand is useless. *LOL* Being ambidextrous would be nice. But, I am right handed. :)

Hi Golgappi! I am a right handed person and do all my dominant work with the right hand. I have seen the kids mostly start with their left hands and eventually shift it to right and become a full fledged righty. HAPPY NEW YEAR.

I am a right handed person, however, I tie my wrist watch on my left hand because if I tie my wrist watch in right hand, it will hamper and interrupt my smooth functioning. However, I sometimes do some of the task with my left hand, such as dialing a telephone number, locking the padlock (it looks easier to me, because the key in a padlock revolves anti-clockwise) and sipping a cup of tea with left hand. I just cannot write with my left hand. Those who are right handed for them their right side of the brain is more active and functional and its vice versa is true for the left handed persons.

Even though you can not write with your left hand, you seem to be accomplishing many other tasks with this hand. Thanks for the nice information dpk.

Hello Daffodil20, I am a right handed person. I eat and work with my right hand. I guess there are more right handed person that left handed one. I observe that most left handed can use their right hand as good as their left hand. I hope you can summarize the results of your discussion. Regards.

I'm a little of both. I write and eat left handed, but do the majority of other things with my right hand. I strung and shot a bow and arrow in high school, left handed. Learned to play the ukelele in 6th grade, left handed, use a spoon or a mixer with either hand, as well as a few other things, but do most things right handed.

I'm a bit of a funny one really I noramlly write with my right hand and use my right hand for most things. However when it comes to eating I eat with my cutlery in the wrong hands. I don't know why but I have just conditioned myself to eat this way and it feels wrong when I rivert to how I should be eating. In the past when i've tried eating correctly i've used a little too much force and shot food across the dining table....perhaps it's just safer if I stay to what I can do.

i write with my left hand but my strong hand is my right so i am confused am i a lefty or righty? most call me a lefty because they said i write with my left hand. but i play soccer with my right foot, arm wrestling, basketball with my right hand. but then again, i play table tennis, badminton, pool with my left hand. so am i a in-between or what i am also not sure about it. haha. but they said that lefty is more intelligent as they use their left brain more.

It seems your left hand is creative and the right one is for sturdy and robust for heavy and day to day work. I have heard too that lefty people are more intelligent.

Ofcourse right hand, in my religion and in healthy life we're suggested to use right hand. In my religion we used right hand because the meaning of using it is good and bad if we use left hand. All good things started from right side.

I have primarily been left-handed all my life. My left is my dominant hand. Most of my everyday basic tasks are done by my left hand. Although there are some activities where I am a bit ambidextrous. Samples of these are how i hold my food utensils, how i use the computer mouse, how i play bowling, etc. For these kind of activities, there a lot of times when I subconsciously switch between my left and right hand.

Wow!! Finally I know someone who efficiently uses both hands. The way nature meant it to be. Even otherwise I have found myself fascinated with left handed people.I mean its kind of fascinating to watch them write, clap, etc. And to be able to switch hands is awesome. Thanks for responding troyski!

Hello Daffodil. I am right-handed. I use more of my right hand when I do something except that I type the words on the keyboard. When I was young, I tried to learn to play the piano, but found that I was not well developed in the left hand because I could not use my left fingers when playing the piano but the right hand. But I am glad that I learned to use my left fingers to type on the keyboard very well. So I think that it is out of practice before we would like to train to use both hands. Thank you for the discussion. Good day.

i am right handed, but my husband and my son are both left handed. when my son was small (he is now 40) me , being his mum , was obviously feeding him and giving him toys etc., with my right hand, so i thought it was quite clever that he was clearly going to be left handed. unfortunately when he went to school , in the early 70's, they did try to single him out and try to make him write with his other hand. my husband was furious as the same thing had happened to him. it did affect my sons writing, but now his writing is very small and he virtally print/writes. My husbands brother is also left handed, but none of his children are, and my husbands grandmother was left handed too. I can knit and sew left handed but cannot write left handed as i end up writing backwards !!
