I heard you wondering what would you do now that the elections are over. Well here's an article for you. Suffering from PESD? Coping with Post Election Stress Disorder If you're like most Americans, you were caught up in the building wave of excitement that was part of this year's election. More than ever before we were wired to the election process, tracking online polls, dissecting debates, laughing over political satire and inundated with an endless stream of political pundits. Many of us found our social life revolving around the excitement and furor of the election. But now that it's over you may feel deflated or stressed, especially if the person you voted for didn't win. This is what's been referred to as PESD, or Post Election Stress Disorder. It can leave you with feelings of emptiness, frustration or a lack of motivation. But there are some practical steps you can take to overcome these feelings. Handling Frustration It's normal to feel some frustration after a candidate your strongly supported doesn't win, but don't let that frustration eat you up inside. Step away from political discussions if they're too upsetting. Remind yourself of what you are grateful for in life and focus on those things. Do something calming such as meditation, taking a walk or listening to music when you feel your stress level rise. Handling Post-Election Blahs Remind yourself of what you were interested in before the campaigning began. And yes, there was a time. Take the time to rekindle interests you've set aside. Get out of the house or office every day. Socialize, stimulate your senses. Keep active, go to the gym, walk the dog, play and laugh with your kids. Whether your stressed or down in the dumps, remember to eat well, stay hydrated and get enough rest. If you find that none of these things help, you may want to consider talking with your doctor. Take the steps to take care of yourself and think positive! 02 Dec, 2008 |Beth Farrell

Hey Pat, I can tell you that I was so happy it was over I don't think that I would ever suffer from PESD! I was over the election about six months before it was done. I voted and was over it. I do try to keep up on current events daily, another reason I might not be a candidate for this disorder. My hubby watches quite a bit of news so if I miss it, he surely can fill me in.
