We have all seen the commericals for the coins and plates. We have seen the shirts, mugs, and all the other Obama merchandise. My question is did they have to have Obama's permission to use his likeness on all these products and is he getting a cut of the profits?

Coins, plates, scarfs, ornaments, pillows... you can put his face on pretty much everything as long as you have the right to the picture (from the person who took the picture). He doesn't get anything from this unless he produces some of that stuff, lol. Personally, I wouldn't want my face on all of that stuff. It's kitsch IMO. But a lot of people go for that. It seems to sell even in this economy. Go figure!

That is sad. YOu would think that htey could not put his picture on things without his permission. If I were him I would be extremely ticked off.

Comes with the territory, if you are a public figure, you just have to live with that. You also have to live with the adoration, papparazi, and even ridicule;)

Personally I think he needs to put a statement out about them. He needs to denounce them. THey completely undermine the dignity and seriousness of the position of president of the United States.
It seems that he should be able to do something to stop it. Someone can not just put a picture of me on a bunch of merchandise and sell it without my permission. So why should they be able to do it to Obama without his permission?
Someone can not take Brad Pitts picture ( or other celebrities)and put them on franklin mint coins ( or other merchandise) without his permission. Why is Obama not protected from this also?

If you think this is bad DO NOT go anywhere near Washington, D.C. for quite a while to come. I guarantee you that Barack Obama and his family will be on thousands of items being sold by the street vendors for as long as his popularity holds.
