I'm doing some extension work for my psychology as level, and I'm intrigued by how people learn from their mistakes. Does anyone know the psychological reasons why people learn from their mistakes? Can anyone recommend any good books/articles on the subject?

We always learn from our mistakes because we dont want to repeat it again right? Like we dont want to hurt someone we love or those people who are very dear to us. So we want to be more careful in dealing with them.

Well, I'm not a psychologist but based on my own experience, people learn from their mistakes because they got hurt in all the things that they have done and they don't want to commit the same mistakes again. In my own opinion people truly learn when the get terribly hurt. Like I did when I had my first failed relationship. Happy posting!

Hello! People learn from their mistakes because mistakes made them vert dissapointed with their life. I cannot give you any article but I will try my best to explain To you what I believe is the reason.as a human being we are tend to commit some mistakes. Big or small mistakes are still counted as mistakes. Some of us are very perfectionist-afraid of commiting mistaks, but the truth is: those people that are acting like that are those who commited the very big mistakes from thier past that is why they are trying to forget it by keeping things perfect, but again, we are tend to do such mistakes because we are only human and we will not grown up as a person without commiting ay mistakes. We learn from that mistakes. Actually, making mistakes are cannot be considered as mistakes. This will actually serves as your lesson not to do the same thing again because you know what will happened if you did the same thing again. It all depends to the kind of person you are. Sad to say, some are just hard-headed that they keep on repeating their mistakes. Mistakes always serves as a lesson for us. It can help us to be a strong person and from that we can learn something. Happy posting!

There is this saying "A wiseman learns from others mistake and a fool learns from his own.. I dont completely agree to this. I always keep saying.. First time it is not a mistake.. it is a learning.. Second time it is a mistake... If a person commits the same mistake again and again then he/she is acting like a fool and so to skip this a person has to learn from his/her mistakes..
