Is it necessary to clean your ears, first of all? I have heard that, the wax forming inside our ears are essential and need not be removed. It is dangerous, some people use hairpins, match sticks, bike keys ,etc., for cleaning their ears.Comparing to that earbuds are safe to some extent. But,it too proves to be risky of use.Your opinions are respected!

I think that when using earbuds you have only to clean the outerpart of the ear. Since once I heard that earbuds can be dangerous if inserted too much in the ear.

a general rule of thumb about cleaning your ears is "dont put anything bigger than your elbow in your ear" lol! and yes i had a nurse tell me that. the wax does serve a purpose, and if you are constantly sticking earbuds inside the canal to remove wax..you can develop an infection..and certainly pain after a while to. i had a boyfriend that was obsessive about getting the wax out of his ears and after a few years of sticking earbuds in their often, he ended up in the emergency room with a LOT of pain, infection and some blood from inside the canal. so...like the nurse said..use an earbud to clean the areas outside of the ear canal..and CAREFULLY use the earbud to clean the rim of the canal itself..but you are NOT supposed to actually insert the earbud INTO the canal.
