Some of my friends are planning a trip to Madeira, a set of portuguese islands. I cannot join them this year but I'd love to. Do you plan something like for the holly season or for new year's? To where? With friends, family, alone?

Hi.. I hope our plan to spend the New Year at Holland will be pursued. *cross finger* I and my boyfriend are planning to visit a friend and spend the new year there since I already spend a new year last year here in Denmark so I want to experience how people in Holland celebrate new year. Aside from it, I want to visit Amsterdam.. We are saving money for this trip and hopefully by next week we can finalize already our trip.

Hi I hope you get it. Amsterdam is a nice town, with a lot of interesting things to see and to do. Try to rent a bicycle, if you like to ride, it's one of the major attraction on the city. Note that no one wears helmets there and it's quite dangerous. Try not to get into the trolley tracks...

Your friends going to Madeira will be going to see the firework celebration on New Year's Eve. I would like to go there in the summer time one year to do some walking and I would pop over to Porto Santo for a few days. That is the tiny island next to Madeira that also belongs to Portugal. Portugal also owns the Azores and it would be excellent if I could go there one day but that trip would be expensive. Airfares are pricey at New Year so I will wait until mid January for my trip to Cape Town with my toddler son.

Hi Maximax8 You really know our portuguese islands quite well!!! I find Madeira pretty nicer than Azores but all the islands have their pearls. In Azores we have a few small volcanoes (furnas) that caught the tourists attraction. But, in Madeira, the flowers are brighter, the sun are hottest, the people are more open... The morning clouds turns the major island into an almost fantasy thing... I don't know Cape Town, yet, but I've lived quite near, in Angola, when I was a child. I hope you make it, and your son will love the trip, for sure.

I usually don't like to travel for the New Year's holiday. I prefer to be with family and friends on New Year's Eve. However, this year, we are renting a cabin in the mountains (about ah hour and a half drive from home) for Christmas and News Year's week. All friends and family are invited to come up if and when they can. There's plenty of room for everyone and I hope that we'll all be able to spend some time together.

Hi Hope you have a lot of friends and family, with you. I usually spend the Holly Night with my husband and kids in my mother's house or in my mother-in-law's. Then the Christmas Day lunch is on the other mum's house. My youngest son's birthday is on New Year's Eve, 31, so we have always to do a dinner's party with the closest family, his godparents and his little friends. Then, some of them go spend the mid-night with their friends or other family and we stay at our home, doing our New Year's arrival.
