Leapfrog Crammer Handheld Device

I was wondering if anyone has the Leapfrog Crammer Handheld Device for their children. I read that this is good for ages 8 and up, so I was thinking about buying it for my 8 year old brother for Christmas...but I wanted to get feed back on it. Supposedly it helps children learn skills needed for school. . . please let me know how well this helps your child learn the skills your child uses in school. What other suggestions would you have for an 8 year old boy? He is mainly into Guitar Hero and Rock Band, but he is spoiled and has all the video games that are already out that revolve around rock bands.
