Guys, what do you think of Paulo Coelho? I've read two of his books: By The River Piedra, I Sat Down and Wept and Veronika Decides to Die. I'll be honest, I don't like the style of his writing but don't get me wrong the content was really good, very interesting. Have you read the Alchemist? Is it good?

I read the Alchemist. It was a very nice story, although I'm a little unsure of the meaning. I thought the style was a little simple and childish...not necessarily bad, but different than I'm used to. Although, wasn't it originally written in Portuguese or something? Isn't he from Brazil? Maybe it just seemed childish because of the translation.

Well maybe its because people have different kinds of views and preferences, I don't blame you if you didn't like Coehlo's style in writing I guess its any readers prerogative, but for me he's one of the best authors I've ever read. I've only read The Alchemist from him and I think it's very inspiring it depends on how you see it actually and how you relate it in your own experiences in life. Main message of the book is about following your dreams and never to give up, its a kind of novel that tells you that everything is possible as long as you really want it to happen given by this quote "When you want something, all the universe conspire to help you achieve it", the book is really bursting with optimism actually, that is why I like it so much cause it kinda lift my spirit up, I've read the book at the time when all the problem and worries a student could ever have like me came pouring in at that time. I hope this book could change your views about Coehlo, but if it cannot oh well, still enjoy reading books that interest you most.
