Well, we are getting 2 weeks off work maybe more. One day before Christmas or it mite be three. and we don't go back until Jan 2 or the 5. I'm so lost. I'm worried about my house and my family. My son is 18 but he still need me. I can afford a small apt. maybe. But I know I can't afford my house payment if Iget laid off. Or can't work for two weeks every month. There are no jobs out there as we all have been looking. The few that got laid of a while ago still have not found work. It is getting really sad at my job these day's. My roommate got laid off when he went deer hunting and he still hasn't found a job. So I have been paying all the bills. Heat is set at 65. So it is cold. But I know I will make it. Will, look for that silver linning hope I find it soon. Have a good day and please cheer me up. Onlydia

Well, they fired the plant manager today. Now how sad is that. I mean he was nice as a person. But he could back stab you in a heart beat. So I'm not sure why they waited so long he never really did get what we did. Or how we did it. I'm sure things will get worse before they get better but that is the way it goes. I will surive as my son said so.And oh no don't give up never.Your friend onlydia and have a great day

Yes I know. My son does help out with the bills as much as he can. And I'm working on doing what I can. I wish that some day's I didn't hurt so bad but I do. I need a new hip. Now that is really bad as I'm only 48 and I need new hips. I should be saying I need a different car not hip. But life goes on and I just move slower is all can't afford a hip as of yet. Have a good day. Onlydia

wow.. I'm so sorry to hear that. I know it's hard to find jobs now, but I do hope that your company is going to give you severance pay. And what you can do, maybe if you want or don't mind, you can try the unemployment office as well, to try to get some money or maybe they have some jobs for you. I do not know much about what US unemployment offices do, but I'm a US HR specialist, and the company should provide you with severance, either lump sum or serial severance if you have worked with your company for a very long time. What you can also ask your hr as well, is that whether you're able to be on serial severance then retire with the company. You still can work as well, maybe as part time somewhere or a consultant. And you then keep your retirement benefits with the company. Which would mean that you may not need to elect COBRA. You can also check on the pension plan your company has. That's just a suggestion. What you can also do is also check whether you can withdraw your savings from your 401k or something to survive if you are losing your jobs. And it depends on your 2 weeks off as well, what type of off is it? pto? sick days? Are you covered for fmla? if it's fmla, they cannot lay you off, other than that, they're able to do so. I'm not sure whether what I'm saying to you is logical to you, but it's just my view, and I hope it helps.you... :) Good luck!

Oh yes the big FMLA. Oh yes they can lay you off. If they get that far on laying people off your out of there. One guy we called him got to leave was on it. One for his wife and then the other for his son. We all got kind of sick of him leaving all the time. We are all hoping and praying we have jobs come Jan. My boss is up there right with me. Both of us looked at each other toady and I said will we have a job in Jan. Helooked at me all sad and daid you know I'm not sure. Thank you for the Advice. And have a great day I try to everyday now. Onlydia

I am so sorry to hear about your job. Seems to be the popular thing as of lately. My son is 18 too. Maybe he could work part time at a restaraunt or something. My son got a part time job at Wal-Mart. He doesn't make much but at least it helps in him having some spending money of his own and takes that burden off of us some what. Good Luck and I do hope things get better soon.

Use the time off to start looking for another position. Contact all of the people that you know that are working and tell them that you are looking for another position and to let you know if you hear of anything. What companies compete with the company that you work for? Fill out applications with them. Sometimes a company will make room for someone who has industry experience. View this as an opportunity. I once worked for a company that closed down and I got a new job within 2 weeks that was a better job and paid more money. Best of luck to you.

LaurenInLA gives some very sound advise. Companies are always looking for employees with industry experience especially those with competitor knowledge. just be careful that you do not disclose any proprietary information.

well its not only you who are experiencing that fear of losing a job, some have already lost but keep on moving there are a lot of ways to survive. maybe at this time you can look for something to sell to your neighbors as an additional income. you can also get some referral or recommendations for work from your friends, suppliers and relatives. you never know maybe one of them is looking for a staff or employee. keep smiling. work will come your way.

Tell about itall friends and ask them if they can help you. Not an easy time to get hired. So try to do work with extra enthusiaam and please the boss at work. You can look for another job before being laid off. Also, let me tell you that you need to save for 6 months in case you fear of being laid off.

Yes I would but you see my friends are in the same spot I'm in. And I'm not sure if I have 6 months any more. This just like hit us out of no where. We were working 6 days a week and everything then out of the blue they are moving the other part of the company to Mexico. They told us not you we are really busy and we were. 48 to 56 hours a week. Now nothing. Well, I will keep trying. have a nice day and thank you.

Hopefully things will work out! We'll all give a little prayer that you don't lose your job. I know that would have to be very stressful! It will be hard to cheer you up though I think you already have a good attitude! Hang in there.....things might turn out okay yet!

Yes I'm working on that and I keep looking for the silver linning and I will find it. Sometimes it is harder to see but it is there. Maybe I wasn't ment to own another home or the up keep this one is costing me. Or there are all kinds of thngs. As long as I don't loose you. That would be lonely not being able to come online anymore. I enjoy coming on here. Hey I got my Tree up. Oh my you should see it. My son decorated it then I helped but I felt the things he had on. I'm glad that his girlfriend is way better at it then him. But you know it wouldn't be the same if I didn't have a funny decorated tree.Have a wonder Holiday. I'm going to have one no matter what. I have Ham and turkey for christmas. Onlydia

sorry to hear that onlydia. i do hope that you still get back to your job and you're assured by your company that you won;t be laid-off. anyway, with the growing economic woes around the world, job security is continually threatened. a lot of industries are adversely affected and companies have no recourse but to save on operating costs and this usually involves cutting down the company's workforce. i experienced the same this year but i got a good severance package. aside from that, i have other part-time jobs that i do so i still have other sources of income. i also get cash from my on-line activities so it helps as well. anyway, i'll be starting my new work next january so for now i just focus on my other sources of income. if you're really worried, i suggest that you start updating your resume. also, you might want to build up a network among co-workers, friends, and family and tell them that you're currently looking for another line of work. you might also want to check with your company the benefits and assistance that you will get if the lay-off happens. that's one of the things that i checked with my previous company. i checked the health benefits that i can continue to receive and it's a good thing that our medical benefits are still available a month after we were let go. anyway, i do hope that these tips help. nothing beats preparedness so i would highly suggest that you prepare for this event so that when it does happen you won;t be caught off-guard.

Was already caught off-guardThey told us we were fine them bang. We are not. It all happened in like 2 to 3 weeks. I think they were hoping that we would get orders and we didn't. They didn't tell us nothing. Now we are all in shock and trying to see where we all stand. Me I looking as I'm close to bottom now. They got the others that were under me. Yes I can't aford the med. I checked it is over $500.00 a mnonth. It will all come out in the wash. I'm looking on the bright side. Have a good day and thank you very much for all the info. Onlydia

I can sympathize with you. My son was just told his company is planning layoffs by the end of the month - just in time for the holidays. And he is a single dad with two small children. Great, just great. Also, my partner's employer has cut hours for everyone drastically. Some weeks he only gets 12 hours. This week its 20. We count on his paycheck to feed us, as my income usually pays most of the other bills we have. I contacted the local food bank and was told based upon our joint income we are eligible for help. So far I've avoided doing that as I figure there might be people worse off than us. But its getting harder to think that way. Like you our place is often cold because I choose not to turn on the heat at night when the temps dip low. Instead we add another blanket. Wish I could cheer you up, but all I can say is I understand. :)
