The emergence of the internet has actually taken its toll on our reading habits. In time ,we have moved from flipping through pages of books to moving and sticking our eyes on monitors and computer screens. Did you ever think or look back and ask yourself how much time we spend moving from screen to screen? For example we move from television screen to movie theatre, from GPS to music players even phone screens its o true that we are gradually becoming people of the screen as written by Kevin Kelly in the Ne w York Times “We are becoming people of the screen…. We are in the middle of a second Gutenberg shift – from book fluency to screen fluency, from literacy to rituality” Do you notice how true this is?

You are right. Many people have become addicted to computer screens. The nice part about it is that if you are doing research on something, the information is right at your finger tips. It's great for people that are cooped up and can't get around as they used to. A few years ago I was in a situation where I could barely walk around at all. The Internet has provided me with the ability to talk to people to look up things of interest and to shop from home. Working from home would have been nice too since I was hardly able to walk. Unfortunately, there are still many older people that are afraid of computers and are unable to use them. I will be traveling during the holidays and I will be bringing my laptop with me. Don't get me wrong though; I still need to have books to read while I drink my tea. I do think that some kids are getting too addicted to screen things and are not getting enough exercise. I have a granddaughter that has put on some weight because she sits in front of a tv, computer, DS games and she reads alot. My daughter & I went in together to buy a Wii for the kids. That's been somewhat helpful because they actually have to move to play.

Hrmmm! I havent heard of the Gutenberg shift. I will have to read up on this. But I have noticed what your talking about. Although I still like to grab a good book and curl up on the couch with my blanket and hot cocoa and just read for hours.
