Do you prefer buying brand names or generic foods when grocery shopping?

I'm one who will always look for a deal when it comes to grocery shopping. I'm sure that I"m not the only one. Once in awhile I will stumble upon brand named foods I really like that have a good sale going on like 2 for $5.00 or 4 for $3.00. (Stuff like that). If I see something that I need like a box of hamburger helper, and see that it's not on sale, I will pick the cheaper one which will happen to be the generic brand. What do you prefer? Brand names or generic store?

You're right Lakota, I find frozen foods like french fries and vegies are pretty bad lol. They have this freezer burnt taste. What's really gross is these mini pizzas we found once ewwwwwww they were generic. Thanks for commenting ~Happy Mylotting~

i go for the generic whenever possible,it's usually the exact same thing for all intents and purposes.there's a couple i prefer the brand name on,but that's only if i've tried the generic and it's lacking. i love the scratch and dent isle too.

The town I use live in had a grocery store that had a shopping cart filled with reduced items. Although some reduced items were unreasonable I would just pick out the things I liked and I would save money on name brands that way. Thanks for your comment

For most things I just buy the store brand but for somethings I'll spend the money for the name brand. Mayo is one of those things...it has to be Miracle Whip, Hubby has to have Cabot cheese (it's like $9.00 a block but he loves it). Some things I have to buy name brand b/c I'm allergic to certain things...soaps, cleaners, shampoo's. I try to get stuff like that at Dollar General b/c it's still name brand but cost less. Hi Twoey, Our family has run into some financial difficulties in the last month or so and I've been doing most of my shopping at the Dollar Store too. I've bought shampoo from there too. I don't like it but it's affordable so until I can afford to buy it from Walmart again then maybe I will hehe. Thanks very much for your comment ~Happy Mylotting~

Hello nixxi76, Mostly i try to buy organic foods! Doesn't matter if they are brand or ordinary foods, the most thing for me in grocery shopping is buying fresh, organic healthy foods. Have a great day!

Hi Zabawaus, When I had ran a daycare we had one parent who brought in organic foods only for her daughter as well. She was mentioning that it was a bit more expensive then other normal foods.. do you find the same? Thanks for sharing your thoughts ~Happy Mylotting~

I usually buy the name brand foods a the grocery store the generic brands usally taste really bland like there are no additives added so therefore there is no taste to the food. I guess I have always went by the saying you get what you pay for.

That's right luvs, you do get what you pay for. Sometimes I can't afford to buy name brand things so I just go with generic. Thanks for your comment
