Looking over the news headlines this morning, I came across this story from Australia... Apparently, teachers are harming their pupils' psyches when they mark their work in red. [b]SYDNEY (Reuters) – Teachers using red pen to mark students' work could be harming their psyche as the color is too aggressive, according to education strategies drafted by an Australian state government. Now, I had a college prof back in the 70's who marked all grades in pencil after she had a student early on faint because the "A" was in red....

I think it depends on how it is used. My now 15yo had a teacher in grade 6 who was wicked with the red pen. She made big swooping marks... and comments. It wasn't very nice at all. My now 12yo has a teacher in grade 7 who uses a red pen but it is not nearly as imposing than when the other teacher did it. I think any colour pen could made them feel bad if they use big huge X's with snarky comments.

Well, yes, snarky comments do a lot more damage than red ink.
