I was wondering with the Christmas excitement and the Holidays around the corner

Does anyone go Christmas caroling any more? My children and I did when they were younger. At the time when we were in California I think we were able the only ones that did in the area we were in. We got a good reception and everyone was nice. What's it like where you are? Does anyone do things to celebrate that involves strangers? Or going out caroling? I love the old ways and traditions. We have a few in our family. On Christmas Eve the children are allowed to open one small gift. The rest are to be opened Christmas morning when everyone is up. Of course we all make a point of getting up early as we know the children will be so excited. We have dinner at my home, being a grandmother of 10, mother of 3, as well as other family that come here I am a very busy person preparing for the holidays. My mother and brother even try to make it some years to my home, it's hard for them as they live in another state and my mother is not well. Our two boys live on the coast in Mississippi but seem to find their way home most times with their families. This is the best time for me as I get to see most of the family. I sincerely wish you all a very Happy Holiday and a wonderful New Year. Brithest Blessings to you all. Thank you in advance for responding.

Hello moondancer,,,In the little community where I have been living for almost two years,,I don't see anyone doing anything much to celebrate the holidays. I don't have any family at home anymore but My daughter will come when she can and bring my great grand children. I really enjoy having them visit. It really means a lot to me. My son will come too..I am glad that I live close enough now for them to be able to visit me.I use to let my children open a gift on Christmas Eve too.Happy holidays to you and yours.Gods blessings to all of you.

Hello mc, yes I remember opening a present on Chritmas eve. I guess that's why I have had my family do it all of these yese gone by. It's so nice to have tranditions and passing them down the line. It's nice that the children continue them, it does show they enjoyed these things and want to continue them. It's so nice that your family will be visiting you. I'm so sorry and feel badly for you that none of them are close by. Many blessings to you and your family.

Wow.. sounds like you are having a great gathering during Christmas. Christmas is a simple affair for my family. We'll just have a feast and Christmas Cake.

I guess for some people it probably is, for us it's what we do ever year. I still need to find a new Christmas story book to read Christmas eve to the children. I want a new one for this year. I usually read T'was the Night Before Christmas.

I haven't seen carolers in years. I used to go with my church all the time, but now the churches don't even seem to be go Christmas caroling any more. I miss that tradition. It always made me feel so warm and good to spread cheer to others. Sounds like you have some wonderful family traditions for the holidays. I don't have many anymore, as the kids have grown up and moved away. It makes me sad, and I really miss them. Have a wonderful holiday season.

cdw, I'm so sorry that the holidays are so sad and lonely for you. If you lived closer to me you would be welcome at my home. Maybe you and your children can get together this year. I might suggest if you don't mind, that all of your children and you get the money together for you to go to your children house for the holidays. I'm sure that if they knew how you felt they would try to attain this for you and them. I'm sur ethey miss you as much as you miss them.

I have not been Christmas caroling in years and have not seen any going door to door since 1975 or so lol. My son went to the nursing home with his school a couple of years ago. They have not done that this year and even my youngest boys class didn't do it this year. It is kind of sad because that always brough a smile to peoples faces. Tough year this year economy wise. Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season and best wishes for the up coming year.

Thank you and the same wishes for you and your family. I know what you mean. I enjoyed doing it with the children and I know I enjoy hearing the carolers myself. It's nice that people would take time to get out in the cold and go sing to others and bring a smile to their faces and a warmth in their hearts. Maybe if more people would try to get it started again it would be so nice. It doesn't cost anything but a little gas to go make someones night. It also gives them pleasurable days after when thinking of the carolers. I know many of us do sing songs at home during Christmas, we do.

Hi there moon dancer. Last year i have went with my girlfriend and her mother and also a lot of other people from her church Christmas caroling to a few people and it was quite enjoyable (even if i had to learn the lyrics on the way). I will probably go again this year and i will also visit some Christmas caroling places before i go to my girlfriend's parent's town.

Oh, that is so nce. I miss caroling with my children. If my health was good and I was able to I'd love to go with my grandchildren and start it up with them. Ah sweet dreams of fun days. I do miss them I know what you mean about the lyrics, I had the same problem the first time my children and I went out. lol
