Cancer is now said to be the be world's top killer by 2010, overtaking heart disease on the race. In poor countries, cancer has already killed many people than HIV, malaria and tuberculosis combined. This is according to the new report by the World Health Organization experts. The main cause of cancer is tobacco use. And it will continue to rise in developing countries, particularly in China and India, where 40 percent of the world's smokers now live. Cancer is one of the greatest untold health crises of the developing world. "Cancer diagnoses around the world have steadily been rising and are expected to hit 12 million this year. Global cancer deaths are expected to reach 7 million, according to the new report by the World Health Organization. An annual rise of 1 percent in cases and deaths is expected - with even larger increases in China, Russia and India. That means new cancer cases will likely mushroom to 27 million annually by 2030, with deaths hitting 17 million. Underlying all this is an expected expansion of the world's population - there will be more people around to get cancer." Sources: The WHO's IARC: http://www.iarc.fr The American Cancer Society: http://www.cancer.org

I too read this this morning. I read it mainly because back in October, my hubby was diagnosed with lung and adeno carcinoma (cancer). It has been a tough fight, and we don't know if we are winning yet. Cancer can strike anyone at anytime. Even if you are feeling fine, you can still have cancer. Hubby went to the doctor for a sore throat. I believe this report is accurate in the raise in cancer cases by the year 2010. I don't think they can look much beyond that though...as far as predicting up to the year 2030.

I agree, cancer is always lurking around and it can strike anytime, just like the empire in star wars. Cancer is very deadly. I mean once you've been infected, you can expect to have your life being numbered by months or even days. This is like the most scariest disease as well.

Cancer's just somehow, incurable...It has taken away many lives, including one of my family member's )': I hope someone will be able to find a 100% cure for cancer in the future...if not, I might even pursue my ambition to become a biochemist or something, to find a cure for cancer. happy mylotting!
