I was just pulling at some yarn that I got as a present from my grandmother as I am intending to test to see if it will go good with orange. Well, I was pulling at the center piece when it suddenly started tugging. On the other end, it was starting to make a indention in the skein that appears a lot like a butt crack.
Have you ever gotten a skein that was not spun right?

I have had a few like that. Then, right when you think you've gotten it untangled, you pull again, only to have it squeeze your whole skein into another knot. What did you do with it? I think your best bet would be to untangle the whole mess and make a ball. It will be easier to use that way.

My mom suggested to make into a ball, but it's not really as bad as I first thought (atleast not yet).. What I've been doing is tugging on it to find the part where it's squishing the rest of the yarn, then I pull that Piece over and then pull the yarn again... the piece that I had just pulled over the skein tightens. Does that make sense? I hope so! I hope I don't end up having to take it out and ball it, I've already got a tangled ball of yarn from when I frogged a project, and it got tangled..
I appreciate the response!

It does make sense. I can even picture it happening. Have you ever used one of those plastic jars with a hole on top to put the yarn you're working with in? It's suppose to help keep it contained and I can see how it would work quite nicely. Maybe that would help next time you have to make a ball so it doesn't get knotted afterwards. I wonder how some skeins come tangled in the first place. It would be interesting to tour a yarn factory to see how they're wound up.

There's a lot of great ideas to store yearn, and I think that punching a hole in the can of a coffee thing would probably work too... and maybe make the yarn smell good? I think that you could probably find out online how the yarn is spun, but I think they use a certain type of turner sort of like the way people make clay pots? I'm not sure though, but it would be quite interesting!
I appreciate the response!

I just finished an afghan for my sister. I had several skeins that knotted in the center and I had to pull out a bunch of the yarn and untangle it. What a mess.

We have a read skein of yarn that's a mess, it was one of the bigger ones, but luckily it was a bit smaller when it decided to tangle. It's such a mess, but it's also kind of fun... I don't know something about untangling it's fun.
