Obama and the Blagojevich Indictment

A lot has, and will continue to be said about Prs. Elect Obama and "what did he know and when did he know it". It's a legitimate question in situations like this, the connection between the two men is undeniable, there can be no "he's just a guy in the neighborhood" excuses here. However, that doesn't mean Obama played any part in this scandal. In fact, from what I've read and heard so far, Blagojevich seemed pissed that Obama was only good for "appreciation". This could mean a few things. It could mean that he and Obama already talked about how they could both profit from "pay to play", but Obama wouldn't play along. This would speak both well and ill of Obama. It would mean that he wasn't willing to be part of the conspiracy, but it would also mean he knew about it and kept his mouth shut. It could also mean that Blagojevich never bothered approaching Obama because he knew he couldn't "trust" him with such incriminating evidence. Which would speak very well of Obama. I think Jesse Jackson Jr. has a lot more to worry about right now than Obama... but we will see how much falls from the tree because the one thing we do know is... there can't be a conspiracy of 1.

I seriously doubt there will be anything that ties Obama to Blago. I wouldn't be surprised if he knew about it and did nothing, but he ran unopposed into the senate so he didn't really need any help from someone like Blago. I read one transcript of a phone call where the guy goes on a profanity laced tirade about how much he hates Obama so that looks good for Obama. I don't know too much about Jesse Jackson Jr., but he could be in bad shape if they judge him based on his father's reputation.

If Obama knew and kept it to himself, then he is involved.

I've been hearing all day about how there are those on the right who are determined to somehow link Obama to this scandal but I don't think they're going to get their way. Ted, one thing I know you'll agree with me on is that Obama isn't stupid. I thin kit's clear this idiot Blagojevich is either totally stupid or totally insane - or both! After seeing Jesse Jackson Jr's press conference I think he's telling the truth. I know, some politicians can look and sound pretty convincing while they're lying through their teeth so I could be wrong but I think he has to know if there was something to incriminate him they probably already have it on tape. I do hope they get to the bottom of this no matter what falls from the tree! Annie

Jackson does need to be investigated because he was implicated as someone willing to deal, but there is a lot of room for it to go either way. There are a few things in the case that I find fishy... there is never a conspiracy of 1. We always hear about the corruption in Illinois state government, but when a governor or other official is arrested there only seems to be 2 or 3 others who go down with him. That tells me that the investigations are very selective and probably only against those who have fallen out of favor with the leaders of the corruption there. Of course a lot of Obama's opponents are going to work overtime to find a connection here. Just like so many of Bush's opponents worked overtime going after Bush.

Well I think that he talked to someone in the Obama camp. How else would he know that they wouldn't give him anything? Plus Axelrod said that Obama had talked with Blago. Of course later they said he had "misspoke". I think that Obama knows that the politicians in his home state are corrupt and he hasn't blown the whistle on anyone yet.

I wonder how many times we are going to heare the "misspoke" line over the next 4-8 years.
