i don't think a kid of 8years old need mobile phone. Mobile phone may deviate his interest from studies. I think kids younger than 16 years should not be allowed to use mobile unless they staying away the house.

I would say no, but I guess a lot of parents would disagree. We just got one for my oldest who is turning 12. We are going to let her ride the bus home starting in January and I want her to be able to contact me if she has problems.

you do make a good point, unless the child is aloud out alot and being without parents then i agree about having a mobile.

I grew up in the days when the cell phone not exist yet, but my parents conrolled me even without the help of this instrument. I think that there is no need to give the cell phone at he child. And I am convinced that, because the cell phone is a comfort that for wich spend many money, kids should have one when can earn enough to pay bill without asking anything to parents.

Do any of us really need cell phones? After all we got along just fine before they were invented. As far as what age a child should have one I think if the child has been trained and is responsible it wouldn't hurt for them to have one. When you think about all the things that could happen to our children while they are away from us it would give peace of mind if our kids had a way to contact us or the authorities if something happened.

I agree with you: I think that eight years of age is far too young for a child to have a cell phone at. At this stage in life, the cell phone isn't beneficial at all, as they probably won't be going anywhere alone. It also teaches them a dependence on technology from an early age, which I strongly disagree with. It's pointless to teach them to rely on phones and sometimes teaches the lesson that this type of technology is a given in everyday life, not leading them to realize that there are many out there who can't afford anything of the kind. Nowadays, I know children that are in Grade 4 or 5 that own a cell phone. o_o When I was that age, cell phones would have been primarily for older people that actually needed them. I haven't seen any of them use it for beneficial purposes, but they just think of it as another "toy" that they can discard if they wish. In my opinion, kids at that age have more important lessons to learn than how to use a cell phone.

i believe that no children under the age of 13 should have a mobile phone because they arnt really going to use it and depending on the child they might not have the responsobility of looking after a mobile phone.
