How often do you use your microwave?

Toda was another one of those days where I just do not have it in to cook and for some reason ever fry pan in the house is dirty...maybe cause I didn't do dishes last night. But fighting a headcold I just don't care. But I wanted to make a meat loaf and it was already 5 o'clock. I remember a long time ago I did this using the microwave...and decided to do it once more. So, in a few I'll know how well it turns out. Usually I only use it to heat up leftovers, veggies, and sometimes I use it for some side dishes as I am cookingon the stove to help speed things up. How often to you nuke your food? Do you prepare whole meals this way?

I don't cook in it, I do just use it to heat up soup or leftovers. Our microwave is pretty strong and 2 minutes is great to boil water in.

Yeah you got a good one there for a boil to happen in 2 min....mine is older and takes awhile. So much for the Magic in the Magic chef.

I use my microwave every day for something, and I also make meatloaf in it sometimes, the mother of a friend made one and it was so good she gave me the recipe, but you have to use lean meat or it has so much grease. I heat up frozen dinners and steam veggies in it. but usually use it to warm up dinners or pop popcorm. I couldn't live with out my microwave.

The meal is seldom nuked, but various components are faster and better using the microwave. For example, just about anything that needs hot water starts in the microwave. making various components of a meal hit the table at the same time is quite a feat, but the microwave can help with that, too, with only a very, very quick zap. More than a few seconds can be a disaster. For some reason, I like "old" coffee better than fresh, and I heat in in the microwave. I don't mean it's months old; just left over from yesterday at the oldest. Pasta or rice or potatoes -- I guess just about any starch -- can be nuked beautifully, and that's going to use a lot less power than the oven.

I really only use my mircowave for heating things up in, like soups and meals. It is always on though with my children. I have never successfully cooked a whole meal in it though. But I have browned some minced steak ok in it. One day my gas ran out on my cooker top and I was half way through boiling potatoes. I put them into a large bowl anf finished them off in the microwave. When I went to mash them though they did not seem as hot as the cooker would do them even though they had been in the mircowave for twenty minutes or more. The butter did not melt well either. They where hot but just not right. They tasted weird also.
