This morning, my Chairman told me that due to the economic meltdown in this country, the staff would not be getting a Christmas bonus this year. I was a little surprised as the bonus' had been allocatd in this years budget from last April - and I have kept in budget. Next year, when the full efects of ecession hit us then I could understand.
I did my usual thing and walked down to the sea to calm down and then I called him and requested that the gardeners receive their bonus even if I am left out. They would receive 2 weeks salary as bonus and I receive one month's salary as a bonus.
Mine was already earmarked to go straight to my credit card as I had helped my daughter pay tuition costs for her Masters. This is why I am in debt. However, I can manage but they earn so little for their salary and a third of what they earn goes to pay bus fare.
He said that they should be grateful that they have a job. Yes, they are grateful to be employed and so am I but the Strat can afford to give them a bonus. I just dread telling them. They are going to be so very disappointed.

bah humbug to him too. seriously, i work for a small non profit organization and while we dont get a christmas bonus, we get a nice paid for lunch and we shut down the company for the week between christmas and new years (and still get paid - so that in a way is a bonus)
happy employees make for a good business.

HI Cher, Thank you for responding. The fact is that in my country recession is only beginning. There is a drop in tourism but those who already paid for their vacations will still come. The massive layoffs will start in about February. Why I was cross is that there is the money in the account that had been agreed upon to give bonus' to the staff.
I need the money but trust me, they need it more. Some days they are hungry as they do not have anything to eat at lunchtime.
Yes, what you get is a bonus. Have a very Happy Christmas and again, thank you for responding. Blessings
