What is considered "soul food" I have seen recipes that are called soul food, but I just think of them as good old country cooking. I was raised up eating collards, ham hocks, rise & gravy, black eye peas, fried okra just to name a few. These are just a few of the things that are called soul food in books, so what I want to know is, what the difference is between the two?

The difference is that us black folk call it soul food, and you guys call it country cooking lol. There is no difference. I don't know where they come up with these terms to describe certain things. Country cooking, soul food, it doesn't matter to me, as long as I got a drink in my hand I don't care what it's called.
I have to ask, is that your picture? If it is, you look d@mn good if that's your real age.

I didn't think there was any difference, but I just wanted to make sure. No that's not me that's my grandchild, I'm trying to find a real good picture to put on there, I just got tired of not having anything up there.

I do not think there is a difference, I guess it depends on who is describing it. My parents are from the south, but I do not particularly like soul food. When I was a kid, I ate it because I had no other choice, but after I became an adult, I do not cook it. I will eat collards, but as far as black eye peas, ham hocks, corn bread etc, I will pass on them.
