People say that there is only one God and despite there beign different religions and different Gods in each religion, there is but one God.
Hinduism is one religion where we have abundance of Gods. There are so many Gods andso many different types of devoties but they all live in harmony. it is like one big famiily. There are Gods and Godesses. They have their children. God has to be more like us for us to relate to him. At teh top we have the Trinity or the three - Creator (Bramha), Preservor (Vishnu) and the Destroyer (Shiva) They have their spouses - Saraswati, Lakshmi and Parvati respectively. Saraswati si the goddess of learning, Lakshmi is the Goddess of wealth and Parvati is the Goddess of strength. Then we have other Gods like Krishna and Rama who are incarnations of Vishnu and they took birth to preserve life on earth against the destructive forces who threatened complete annihilation. They took birth to destroy evil. Then you have Hanuman, the Monkey God, who is a disciple of Lord Rama and helps him in destruction of evil forces. Then you have the "nava grahas' or the nine planets.
There are many other minor and major Gods too, who are worshiped according to one's belief. I believe in all these Gods and worship all of them. Most of it is symbolism and they are representatives of various forces acting on life. it is very interesting and a study reveals how systematially the ancient people developed and created religion.
