Temp agencies place you in some of the worst places and steal half your paycheck. In Canada, you basically cannot get a job without going through a temp agency first. You sit on this system for anywhere from 3 mths to 5 yrs before you can get hired and in most places you still have to apply as if you walked off the street. I believe it should be regulation that as a business owner you should let the temp agency hire your employees for only 1.00 less then what you pay your full times, and after 3 mths you either hire that employee or let him/her go. Because I know people who applied for jobs after working at a factory for 9 mths to a year and not get hired due to they don't meet the companies qualifications but they can work there through the temp agency. If the temp agencies were regulated or shut down then you could find a job the old fashioned way. What do you think? What have your experiences been? Do you disagree and why? Happy mylotting!

i know many people in the states who have had some great, highly recommended experiences with temp agencies.... although I have never worked for one myself. I get the impression most temp people like the freedom it provides, and the fact that you can end up with a variety of different jobs to keep things from getting to boring and repetitive. I think it has a lot to do with the temp agencies you sign up for, and if you get good one and build a good rapport and reputation with them I think it would probably help some. The system in Canada sounds like it might be much different than here though, so I can't say much about that. Maybe you'd have better luck trying to find some temporary jobs of your own on places like craigslist?

Oh for some people here it's great for filling in time and some people I talk to say the very same thing, but think about it. You're trying to raise a family with an unstable job. You can go a month or two between jobs and no compensation for that. No benefits what so ever. and if you happen to like the job your at the chances of you being hired are next to nil. I think within this new economic strife, this type of employment cannot possibly be good for anyone. I, thank goodness, do not need the services of these people anymore. In my opinion they are useless. I can find my own job when I am prepared to look. I have a daughter with autism and have to stay home with her. I watched my husband suffer through trying to provide for us using these people. He got lucky and was hired. When I was using the services I was always told I was an excellent employee, but I could not get hired anywhere. And I completed all contracts. The point I think temp agencies should exist is to fill in probationary periods so that it would be easier for employers to dismiss bad employees and save money on insurance. In my province, Ontario, you cannot get a good paying without going through a temp agency. You have no choice. If you want a full time postion you have to go to McDonald's or Tim Horton's or something like that. But all factories have temp agency contracts only. I think this is mad. What about you?

that really is insane... definitely not right at all. it seems like you are on the right track with your plans and thinking though. it sucks that the system is set up the way it is, with money grubbing corporations doing whatever they can to take advantage of 'the little guys'. I might have to try doing some temp work here myself coming up and so I hope it goes alright. it should prove to be interesting FOR SURE!
