Movie Review - The Day The Earth Stood Still

A mysterious, giant silver ball appeared in Grand Central Park, New York. Within the ball, appeared an alien life form in the shape of a human named Klaatu (Keanu Reeves). The American government decided to forcefully arrest the alien life form. Then they engaged the scientist, Helen (Jennifer Connelly), who felt that Klaatu should be given a chance to say what he came to say. So she let him go without the knowledge of the FBI. She and Jacob (Jaden Smith), together with Klaatu got together and Klaatu shared more about his origins. Klaatu told Helen that his mission is to save the planet Earth by getting rid of all man kind. And no one can stop him from doing so. The movie is a true blue science fiction show. Other than spectacular scenes and beautiful aerial view of the city of New York, the movie also boasts of a very elaborate scene of apocalyptic proportions where New York is literally battle worn in a bid to fight of the alien invasion. Pity. The movie also too preachy in the delivery of the many save-the-earth, protecting the environment and conserving our resources. Helen, has on numerous occassions, helped Klaatu for reasons known only to herself. Her relationship with Jacab left much to be explored. Klaatu's understanding of the human emotion are conventional at best. On the acting front, Jaden Smith displayed some outstanding talents. It could be partly due to the fact that his daddy is a superb and establish actor himself. It was Keanu Reeves acting that left much to be desired. He was literally expressionless throughout the movie. Eventhough the role is that of a cold blooded alien bent on eradicating mankind on earth, he has been critized a lot as being a zombie actor that brings no emotions to his characters on screen. Overall, the show is good to watch. It is bound to thrill sci-fi fans who love these alien take over the earth movies.
