Online book clubs and read alongs

Would you be interested in having read alongs and discussions on mylot? One could open a discussion for a book of their choice, anyone who is interested will join it, then we could talk about what we think of the book and it's characters as we go. We'd all roughly have to be in the same place though so we don't give away the ending, so maybe if a chapter each day was read? Do you think it would work or be too much of a hassle?

I honestly think that would be great! To have are world wide book club. That would pretty neat. How many interesting people we would meet and also the different views on the same books that we have read.
But I could see it as a hassle too. Since most of us don't have time it would be hard to read every single comment left on the page.
And the other problem if the book is really good than it'll be hard to put the book down and end up reading the next chapter and maybe even farther.
I quess it both has it's pros and cons like everything else done in the world.

You bring up some good points. It seems like it's hard to just DO anything these days because it all takes so much planning. I wouldn't want to be in charge of such a large thing because you know there are always those who will complain about every little detail. But, yes, it would be neat.

You are right there's lots of people who would complain and make it hard to control or even run. Now if you had a smaller book club that wouldn't be so bad. But a large one like on mylot than it would be more difficult.

I like the idea, although, I'm not sure how good of a platform for such a discussion mylot is.
There are some considerations that need to be handled before one can have an online reading group: agreement in choice of books, availability of people, reading speed, etc.
I'm in a reading group where we are currently doing rereading of several books in preparation for the release of the new installment of the series, and we are using yahoo groups as our online meeting place. We are all fans of the series, and we have a schedule of what chapters to read, and its quite fun.
