Can you make rice pudding with leftover rice? Sometimes when I have leftover rice, I'll make "fried rice". I learned how to make it by paying attention when I went to a Japanese restaurant where they prepare the food right in front of you at the table. My mother used to make rice pudding, but she always used uncooked rice to start. I've been wanting to learn how to make it close to the way she did, but we cook rice often and I was hoping to make use of the leftover rice. Any ideas?

I knew that you couldn't use a recipe to start a discussion. I didn't know that you couldn't put a recipe in as a reply. I understand about the copyrite part. I guess if it came of the net, we could probably provide the link. From what you said, it sounds like it might be okay to post a family recipe as a reply?

a family recipe yes you can post cause it is yours, you cannot use a full recipe from the net that is copyright infringement, you can never post anything in it's entirety from the net even with a link, that is copyright infringement, you must have full permission from the author to do it, or you care allowed to post an excerpt which is no more than one or two paragraphs of any article with a link, but never the whole thing

I don't know rice pudding but if it is a matter of making a sweet dish with left over rice I can give you an idea. Cook it all over again [if it is not totally soft and flour like when mashed], and then mash it well.Make a thick syrup of jaggery, 1:2 [jaggery is half the measure or even one third of the rice- de[ends on your individual sweet tooth]. Mix the mashed cooked rice to the syrup , stir it well, add liberal portions of ghee'[if you want extra richness in your dessert] add, nutmeg , elaichi powder[fried],fried almonds, cashews, pistachios and serve hot. You can also make tikkas with this by adding mashed potato , spices, salt, chilly, and bread crumbs , making flat tikkas[balls made oval] and shallow frying it--

Rice Pudding - Picture of rice pudding ready to eat
Hi Miami- my kind of name (I used to live in Orlando, hence the name warmweatherwoman) Here is the recipe I use- hope you enjoy, its from Betty Crocker :) Rice Pudding Recipe Ingredients 2 1/2 cups (600 ml) of whole milk 1/3 cup (66 grams) of long or short grain white rice 1/8 teaspoon salt 1 egg 1/4 cup (50 grams) dark brown sugar 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon 1/3 cup (40 grams) raisins Method 1 In a medium heavy bottomed saucepan, combine milk, rice and salt and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer until the rice is tender, about 20 minutes. Stir frequently to prevent the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pan. 2 In a small mixing bowl, whisk together egg and brown sugar until well mixed. Add a half cup of the rice mixture - a tablespoon at a time - beating to incorporate. 3 Add egg mixture back into the saucepan of rice and milk and stir, on low heat, for 10 minutes or so, until thickened. Be careful not to have the mixture come to a boil at this point. Stir in the vanilla. Remove from heat and stir in the raisins and cinnamon. Serve warm or cold. Serves 2-3.
