Do a bunch of research on pitbulls and show it to her. If she don't know your dog, introduce them. I have a pitbull and she is my best friend and I have a lot of people telling me to get rid of her, I would never be able to. A dog should not be judged by a bad name it has but by how it is. Ask her if she would put down somebody of a different race because someone of that race done something wrong.

Let me begin by saying that I know how your aunt feels. I was once one of the uneducated who had only heard the horror stories of the "vicious pit bull". I am now a breeder. I love all dogs, but I love this breed beyond all other. I have four adults, and twelve puppies. And all of them are living in my house with me and my three kids, ages 12, 8,and 1. It is true that they don't usually get along well with other dogs unless they have been raised with a particular one, but it IS NOT true that they are all aggressive towards people. The breed was intentionally bred to bait bulls, and then later on, to fight other dogs. But they were NEVER bred to be aggressive towards humans. In those days, if a dog showed signs of aggression to a person, that dog was put down. The handler had to be able to control the animal at all times without fear of being attacked. So, that is a short history of the pit. Like I said, these dogs have a strong desire to please "their person". They are very protective and loving. In my opinion, they are the perfect family dog, assuming that the owner is responsible enough to understand that they don't like other animals. You definitely don't want to be facing a law suit because your dog bit your neighbor's dog. And you need to understand that about half of the population doesn't understand them. People don't believe me when I tell them that statistics actually show that the bite rate for the Pit Bull is right up there with the Golden Retriever. Which means that it doesn't happen as often as people think. I wish you all the luck in the world with your aunt, and I hope that some of this information on the breed has been helpful. I may not love my dogs as much as I love my children, but it's close. I would protect them just as they would protect me. At the end of the day, though, they're just big babies.
