hello there... well, there are some advantages and disadvantages for both windows xp and windows vista OS's... but you cannot choose which one is better or good to use... let's see what's the advantages and disadvantages for both OS... first of all, windows xp edition, i think this is the best OS microsoft ever produced! microsoft really changed a lot of things from GUI till the processes... the hardware requirement also not that much... just 128MB of RAM, 32MB of graphics memory, cd-rom and intel pentium 3 or above processor... my computer runs with this configuration and it really runs smoothly... windows xp also very nice and easy to work with... even though there are some security holes in it but microsoft constantly updates and fixes it from time to time... the computer users also know which editions to choose for their computer... for example, normal, student and home users pick windows xp home edition... for big companies and high professions users, they pick windows xp professional edition... because of this reason, even now around the world, windows xp still dominates the market as the most installed OS... now let's look into windows vista... microsoft really took a long time to build this OS and they pretty much nailed it on the GUI but lost on the stability of the system... microsoft simplified and trimmed a lot from windows xp edition... the GUI and AERO effects are the best yet from microsoft... i really love this function but some people cannot enjoy it... why? because it requires a lot of hardware support... for example, if you want to run windows vista, you will need at least 1GB of RAM, 128MB of graphics memory, DVD burner and also a dual-core processor... and that's the least requirement to run windows vista editions... imagine what would the windows vista ultimate edition will ask form hardware support... and even though you have the recommended hardware support, you still cannot enjoy the full benefits of AERO effects because only some windows vista editions have this feature for example, windows vista home basic does not have this feature but windows vista home premium does... so computer users are pretty much confused which editions to choose from... but only windows vista ultimate have all the features that microsoft have to offer... but this also have another factor... that is price factor... the price of windows vista ultimate is really expensive... now people have no choice but to buy the cheaper windows vista editions... another problem is the new user account control system from windows vista... it prompts the warning to the user each time he/she opens a program or installs it... this is really annoying from most of the time... because of this problems, windows xp is the most favorite OS for most of the people and windows vista does not sell well in the market... so i think it's up to you to decide which OS is suitable for you... i hope microsoft will fix a lot of mistakes they did in both windows xp and windows vista in order to have a stable and secure OS for the computer users around the world... let's hope for it...

My techy wants me to go Vista and i have been putting it off as I have heard so amny things, he has a few computers running at his house and he has XP on one and Vista on the other and is trialing the new 7, he says Vista is all about the configuration, he said he can have Vista running exactly the way that XP does by confuring it, he told me anyone that is having trouble with it is only because it isn't configured properly...he has no problems what so ever, he has even shown me the difference between the two and how he can change it to the way needed... so good luck I hope it works out for you.

Hey, I will just say it in simple terms: If you only have 1GB RAM on your computer, do NOT upgrade to Vista. Whatever you do, just don't do it. Only upgrade to Vista if you have 2GB of RAM or more or else you will have major problems with it. Why do I say this? Because Windows Vista uses up like all of your RAM! I bought a computer that had 1GB RAM and I didn't know how much Vista sucked then. So I stupidly bought it thinking that Vista was all good and stuff. Yep, but I paid the price. Only buying a laptop with 1GB RAM is the stupidest thing you could do. I closed down all applications to see how much RAM Vista uses itself. I was amazed! Vista uses 599MB of RAM on my laptop! So in my opinion, Vista is basically like XP but is just much slower. Hope this helps!

For a veteran XP user you'll find Vista quite difficult to get used with. Is not as simple or as ergnomic as XP but, in contrast with XP offers a more secure environment. If working with the default programs of the OS suits you, you'll find Vista more complete than XP. The packages come with a huge associated software. I guess its friendliness depends on the user's system of habitual actions.

I don't know, I agree to some extent but disagree at the same time. When you first get Vista, it's almost impossible to find anything, depending on how heavily-customized your XP setup was. But once you get used to the layout and all that, it's actually more... maybe not intuitive, but it makes more sense. My problem is that Vista is really more for the casual user; everything is "under the hood." If you know what you are doing and want to configure it, you're going to have to spend a lot of time surfing the Web to find out how. However, the information is out there because so many people feel the same. All in all, I haven't had any problems with Vista and have grown to like it more than I ever liked XP.
