I've heard that Windows XP will soon be gone.
Is this true?
I've had a brief look at Vista, and don't want
it. Guess I'll buy a 'used' computer.
I hate the way Microsoft is so controlling, don't you?

Thanks for all of your comments. Ihave
a friend that I wanted to help get setup
on the net, and she has a new Dell with
Vista. Being vision impaired has its
handicap - but we needed to find the
add/remove programs, and I couldn't make
heads or tails out of the start menu.
Egaaads Vista is the PITTS!

Well, Microsoft knows that Vista is not a good successor of XP. Therefore, computer users will still downgrade to XP from Vista. Since they have to maximize the sales of each Vista to cover the cost of production. They will need to make sure that manufacturers use and recommends Vista over XP. Similarly, more hardware produces Vista drivers than XP drivers. Then Microsoft also cut the retail supply of XP to the market. I just hope that Windows 7 will make us choose it over the other 2 OS willingly.

Yes. This is true in the sense that Microsoft will no longer provide support or updates for Windows XP and that no new computers from large manufacturers will be sold with Windows XP. It does not mean that all of sudden all the PCs still running Windows XP will immediately cease to be functional or that all previously sold copies of Windows XP will spontaneously combust. If you are not a gamer, or don't need to use specific business software, then I suggest that you try a Linux distribution. Linux Distros are very user friendly nowadays. I have also heard nothing but good things about MacOS. Cheers.

yes eventually it will be true think of windows 98,95,2000,etc. they all disappeared after the newer version was in the position to take over. almost no new comps come with xp now although i think my favorite computer company still offers xp with the new ones (but i wouldnt advise gettin 1 from them just to get xp the comps they sell are above the highest quality dells, compaqs, etc. but have a very high price tag (they are fully customizable and the 1 i custimized to get a price range was close to 6 grand)

I heard that for the first time ever Microsoft sold a "down grade" cd for people that had vista to downgrade back to XP...I'm not sure if it's true or not. I still use XP and wouldn't trade it for anything else!
