A almost a hundred year old giant,IBM, one of the greatest company ever existed. recently,I review the history of IBM.I was impressed. From the matrrial I read, I know that PC standard was establish by IBM,how great it was! But in the year of 2005,IBM sold the whole PC Department to Lenovo,a Chinese company. And before that, the business giant had sold it's hard-drive departant to a japanese company,Hitachi,hard-drive technology was also invented by IBM.what if IBM did not sell these department?let's discuss aboout it.

The reason IBM is still so successful is because they know when to cut losses. IBM pc idustry was slumping with the emergence of DELL hence they decided to sell the PC business but they are still doing R&D on new PC hardware and architecture. Same goes to the Harddrive industry. Although they sole the HDD business they came up with the ATA spec that all HDD manufactures have to follow. Most likely IBM is getting royalty for it

IBM doesn't seem the same to me, but I think that's because it's become almost invisible to consumers these days. They're still a huge and very succesful company, but they sell services to other corporations rather than hardware (well, I guess they are still in the mainframe business). Contrast this to when IBM-branded computers were favored by businesses and often found in schools -- IBM was everywhere, but it also had a wonderful reputation for quality. When I was a little kid, I dreamed of owning an IBM computer of my own. Nowadays I doubt there are too many kids who dream of someday running Lotus Notes or hiring IBM for their consulting services... IBM's still a giant company, but it just doesn't exist in the public's imagination in the same way that it once did. I still hope to buy an XT for my computer collection one day, though!

IBM is a ghost of its former self. It a wonder how such a big company can go down.Ots destruction began when it went against a little known company called "MICROSOFT".
