I am unable to sleep when the room I am sleeping has its lights on. For induction of my sleep, I need complete darkness in my room. I can't just sleep in a lighted room how much tired i am!!! I was wondering whether you people also have the same habit or Your sleep is not dependant on any external condition??Do reply.

I can sleep ANYWHERE at ANYTIME with or without lights on. It doesn't make a difference for me. I can fall asleep at the beach with noise too. I pretty much can sleep in any condition. Shihtzumama

No I don't fall asleep standing up and that is what someone with Narcolepsy would do.....I don't fall asleep while driving or when doing activities. Only when I am laying down to watch tv. Big difference!

@shihtzumama Both my mom and I have narcolepsy, I don't fall asleep standing up, I have a low case. My mom falls asleep a lot. We both take medication and see a sleep specialist.

These days, I usually sleep with the lights on. Exhaustion acts as blinders in my case.

I used to sleep with the lights on when i was small. But now i only can sleep well with the lights off. Somehow i can fall sleep if the light is on, but i couldn't sleep well and i will wake up all the time. I read from somewhere, there is a study about this, it says we are not fully in rest if we sleep with the light on. It's better to switch off the light. I don't know how reliable this study is. Anyway, i feel more comfortable to sleep in darkness. Have a nice day.

Hehe, no, it can not be so. One person that I know usually would answer to this `problem` like this: "If a person is really...REALLY tired, he/she would be able to sleep EVEN without laying down on a bad!". And I have experienced this one...I fall asleep when I was in the train, standing...my eyes closed and....after like 3 stops when I heard what the station is- I realized that I was knocked out for 3,5 train stops!! Yes, I am able to sleep when the lights are on. Even my sleep is better then! Because it takes long time for me to fall asleep, but when lights are on: I somehow am not willing to keep my eyes opened: the light comes straight into my eyes! So I close my eyes, and...1 sheep...2 sheeps....3... And I am sleeping.
