brainstorming for writing articles for money

When you decide to wrtie articles for making money, how do you decide what you want to write about. Do watch the news and take and idea from that, or do you just write what ever comes to thought? Please give some examples that might help out a new person who is trying to earn money writing articles.

Usually, I write about a topic that interests me or that I have knowledge about. Like I enjoy tennis and have some knowledge about it so often I choose to write about that. Make sure you choose a topic that you like and can write about.
