Do you put making money as the main reason you choose employment

Is the amount of money you make a determining factor for deciding where you work..Say for example you are offered lots of money but then must put up with all kind of junk..Would you stay because you love how much you are making? Myself I stay working somewhere because I love what I do.. The money is an incentive .but no amount of money can keep me where I wouldn't want to believe..I think you do well where you are truly happy ..Money cannot make you happy ..no matter what people say. Just look at all the billionaires and millionaires..THey are not hapy with just one house, one car..one boat.they keep buying and buying..never satisfied. I think happiness at work must be more then just how much you make? What do you think?

Money is ONE of the reasons when I consider employment but its not everything. I have to grow in the job as well and it must provide a challenge for me. If not, I would just resign and find other well paying job that would challenge my mind and abilities. I once told my boss that when I get bored with a job and it becomes routine, I might as well move on and find new learning experiences.

Wow that's a totally different take on work..I don't think I would be changing my work everytime I got a some boring moments.. I think there is something to say about stick-to-it-ness

I am not referring to boring moments. Boring moments only comes when one is less than creative with ones time. Boring for me comes when I have learned all there is to learn and there is no more challenge for me for the job as a whole. I have worked for almost 7 years in my previous job and 5 years now in my current job. But I have already started feeling bored but i have still not considered moving on because my boss have talked to me to provide me with more challenges and growth in my job. As long as there are new challenges then I am okey. As to pay, one could always find a well paying job. What is difficult to find is the job that one likes.

I look at it this way. I have been unhappy with other jobs because I felt that they did not pay me enough for the crap I had to put up with. So, in just saying that means that there is an amount of money worth putting up with a certain amount of crap. So I figure I can put up with a crappy job that pays well. If the pay is in direct relation to the amount of crap you have to put up with then I imagine I would try to put up with it as long as possible. I have learned to make the very marked distinction between my home life and my work life, so as long as I got my time to myself and with my familky I caould but up with being paid well until retirement.

Well I kind of agree on that way of seeing ..I know I surely would put up with crap if someone is not paying even a minimum wage for the job being done..but I am not ever going to be rich..this I have resigned myself to..so I told myself I want to do something I enjoy..If I do something merely for money and have to be run over a thousand times but degradeable words and unrealistic demands...what good would all the money do me..I would end up in the mental hospital in no time and then all the crap I took for the bit of money would be totaly foolish.

Yeah, you do have a point there. The older I get the more I realize that I just want to be left alone. So I wouldn't do well working in an environement where there were unrealistic demands or the management was too high-strung. As it stands right now I am happily unemployed. I am looking carefully into what my next job will be. I am hoping for happy and well-paid.

I used to work for the money. There came a point in my life where I realized that money isn't everything. I needed more time to spend with my family and friends and working 6 days a week 8-10 hours a day wasn't cutting it. Plus I was so tired and my body hurt. Now I do not focus on a position that will pay the most. If there is any kind of junk, I will not remain. Life is way too short. Money is important. I have a base minimum that I can work for and survive on however. Not always are the highest paying positions the better ones. Who you work with is half the battle too. If you enjoy working with your co workers, you've got it made. Not all millionaires or billionaires are not happy with their positions. However, I find that most are. Not all are never satisfied however. Some live a meager life and is what keeps them remaining wealthy. I think that happiness at work is the most important over how much you make for sure. Love what you do and it wont seem like work.

I am just frustrated with the job market and wish there was better out there right now. I do not love my current job. It is ok for a paycheck and benefits. That is about all I view it as these days. I do not hate it, but I do not love it either.

Money is not the main reason for me to accept an offer.Mostly I prefer the working invironment. My present work is not of high salary, but I'm happy and not under great pressure.Money is important but not everything.I get no strong desire to gain huge money.Someone would accept any job with high pay no matter how bad the other situation is,but I'm not.

You are right..those in power will not put up with someone seeking more money if they can get someone to do the same job for less.. Better to bite your tongue as far as requesting a raise.. I think money can be a real break down in many areas: work, family, church even.

i am 20 years old and i just graduated from college... i moved out from home to start working after graduation.. its not because i want to earn more money, i am well pampered in our home by my parents... my main reAson why i started working was because i think its time for me to face the real world.. feel how hard is it to live life... knowing i had stayed at home being well provided by my folks didnt made it easier..i learned a lot of things.. like giving value to every penny u earned.. u appreciate little things... it taught me to save as well.. to have a goal, not just working and buyign the things that fancy me...so in my personal experience its just all about money... i graduated with a bachelor's degree in education... but im working on a call center.. not because of money but because i love talking to people.. i love to be logical, to reason out and to be analytical as well... :)and im learning big time as well.:)

i think it has to be balanced... for me, the kind of jobs that i do and the incentive had to be balanced... at the moment, i am not quite happy with my job because i think it is not paying me well enough for the amount of work that i have to put up with... but i am still grateful to God for providing me with a job... at least i can still survive and in a recession time like this, it is much better than nothing... take care and have a nice day...

Well you asked about making money, you never asked about happiness. I think all employees are slaves at point and no slave can be happy. Position of one slave can be better than another, but basically as long as you are working for another person, you are a slave. Millionaires and billionaires have their own business and make their own money, so their enjoyment is on a different level. Even top corporate honchos have shares and other benefits which make them a part of the ownership of the company. So employment and happiness are not the same. Now regarding money, yes I work coz I need the dough. It’s a very integral part of my job…I feel happy when I receive my paycheck at the end of the month. It gives me freedom to do a lot of things which my heart desires.

I only go to work to make money and I don't expect to make a lot of money, I only need enough to pay my rent, put food on my table and go home to see my parents every summer.

Money is definitely not the main reason that i choose employment. You konw some illegal jobs make more money, but we dont even take a dip of it.Im thinking about changing my job in 3 years.By that time, i will take both money and job satisfaction into consideration.

It's true, good payment is one of the factor when accept a post but not the main reason. If the job fulls of junk, it's useless with the high payment. So, find a good job is not an easy work. We need to think for a second .
