My friends husband died yesterday morning

He had gone into the hospital around Thanksgiving. He had a collapsed lung. They performed surgery several times and they ended up having to re inflate his lung 8 times. They did a tracheotomy last Sunday. He had been on a respirator since then because he could not breathe on his own. His family knew he did not want to live on a respirator, so they slowly took him off of it in hopes that he would start breathing again on his own. He did not. To make this a discussion. Do you know anyone who has ever had a tracheotomy put in or had surgery for a collapsed lung?

I'm so sorry for your friend's loss. It sounds to me like there was something else going on with him since he didn't respond to any of the usual treatments for his condition. People usually can live with one lung but something was making that impossible for him. My brother-in-law recently had radical surgery to his throat due to cancer called a laryngectomy so he has a permanent hole in his throat that he breaths out of. But, his lungs are okay so that's why it worked for him.

He had already had health problems. He has been in and out of the hospital several times in the last year. I was already on oxygen before he went in for the collapsed lung. I am glad to hear that your brother in law's surgery was successful.

I am so sorry for you and your friend lilybug. This must be awful for her. I don't know anyone who had the same sugery but I had a frind who suffered so much as fluid was on he rlungs (she had cancer) and they kept draing the fluid off her lungs. she suffered so badly that I was glad when she passed on. It was agony for her. I just checked your site and saw the amazing photos of your daughter. She is gorgeous. I am so jealous that I am going to gwet my son to put an avator on of my and 3 of the grands. Still not receing your posts. I will make a special effort to check what you have posted. Blessings

I do not like hospitals and I hope that when I die it will be in much more natural surroundings. We all die. I am sorry for your friend.
