I've been using Comodo for a while and I found it very good. It's maybe a bit difficult to configure and understand in the beginning but there's a huge community forum with clear explanations and rules made for the most common applications.
I've tried Zone Alarm in the past and it seemed to work fine too, maybe it's more user friendly.
Anyway, I'd surely suggest Comodo.

I got Comodo from my PC and so far it had not given me any problems plus the fact that it really does not use my resources that much. So for now I would stick to it since it is provided for free so I really don't have any problems with it in my system. As for Zone Alarm I used that a long time ago and I also find it okay but there are instances that it may eat some of your resources while running in the background.
Both have the same annoying popups that comes when a new program is ran in your system. They will always try to block anything that is new to the system especially when they would try to change your system files. I guess they may become nuisance but it is a necessary nuisance after all.
