Copyright duration of game softwares

I just wanted to ask you a doubt. Is there an expiry date for the copyright of game softwares so that after that date we can use it as a free software.

In the US copyright that registered after 1st January, 1978 will expired within 95 years from its first publication or 120 years from the year its first creation, whichever come first. If you want to read more please read it in wikipedia :- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright

I'm not sure on copyright length, but there is a fair bit of abandonware around, which is software that is neither sold or supported, or whose copyright ownership may be unclear.
