Is it better to moisturize

when your skin is wet or dry? I have always heard to moisturize your skin when you get out of the shower when it is still wet, since this locks in the moisture. However, when I do that, the lotion seems to just wipe off of my skin. When I moisturize when my skin is dry, it seems to penetrate and stay there. It seems putting moisturizer on dry skin works better for me. What do you think?

I use baby oil or sesame oil in the shower. When I turn the water off, I put the oil all over. Then I just dry my hair and feet! Then I air dry everything else.

For me, it works when I just towel dry myself after a shower, I feel that my skin is softer and the cream gets absorbed better when my skin is damp.

There are certain days afterbath I use body lotion, and there are some days afterbath I use body oil. Normally, I would lotion most of the time after wiping soap and water from my skin. If I had to use body oil, I would leave my skin wet and pat dry with a towel.

I think it depends on what kind of lotion you are using but i think most lotions would work better if you would be applying it in dry skin as compared to when it is still wet. Your skin would absorb it much better if you would be applying it on dry skin and rubbing it so that it could be absorbed. I think if you would be looking at the back the contanier of the lotion there are usually some instructions on how you would be applying your lotion.

Sometimes I will use the Olay in-shower body lotion all over and then I will lotion up good before bed. The Olay in-shower lotion is good, you put it on in the shower. and then rinse, it leaves skin soft, especially right after shower

I never notice when it is best to moisturize, i just put on lotion after every bath and after all my house chores. Though, i do believe that it is better to do it when the skin is still wet because as you have said it locks in the moisture better. Moisturizers are a great help to our skin especially during cold months when our skin tends to be drier.

You don't have to put in on while you're actually wet. Just put your moisturizer on within a few minutes after you get out of the shower while your skin is still plumped up with moisture. I keep my moisturizer in the bathroom so I put it on as soon as I'm done toweling myself off. It helps hold in the moisture longer. If you feel like you need to wipe it off then you're using too much.

Well, this explains it then. I was wondering why my skin was more manageable if I applied lotion just after towelling after a shower and felt dry faster if I applied otherwise. So, maybe it is better to apply lotion just after you shower but after towelling it off because that way it stays longer.

Hi! This is what I've been reading in the beauty columns and hearing from people that one should moisturise the face when still wet, after the shower as it retains the moisture. I keep moisturiser outside the bathroom and apply it immediately. And yes, this does help.

I tend to put mositurizer on when my skin is dry...like you said it tends to wipe off if my skin is wet. I've heard it absorbs better if your skin is wet but if it wipes off you dont benefit.

As long as you are putting something on your skin to keep it moist then I don't think it really matters.

I find the same thing myself,it just will not soak in and it all goes greasy and messy.I always dry my face .Sometimes I put baby oil on the rest of my wet body and pat dry with a towel that keeps the moisture in your skin, facial skin must be different.

Definitely use moisturizer on dry skin... however if you put any kind of toner on your face, THAT should be done while your face is still wet.
