i am worried about my 3 year old son who does not chew his food although he has all the teeth at his age. because of this i have to grind his food in a mixie/grinder and feed him. i have asked his pediatrician and he advised me to give him solid food and not grinded food. but my son will hardly eat 3-4 pieces of bread or balls of cooked rice. what to do? any suggestions please

Hello Mtata....Well Most boys at this age tend to be too busy playing or getting into mischief and food is the least thought in their mind.Feeding them is a real ordeal and most mothers have to spoon feed them while they have their attention elsewhere..But in your case you say your son refuses to chew.Perhaps you should try giving him different varieties of food and locate his taste and give him food which he likes like chocolates, chips,or what ever and he may start chewing it readily. But bewarned, most children tend to develop a liking for food which is less nutritious.......

My son likes chips, indian bread, corn flakes, noodles and rice. He likes plain rice and noodles very much. I have tried various things on him. Finally I mostly give rice and noodles. My worry also is he doesn't eat vegetables or fruits at all. For a 3 year old, he should get enough nutrition naturally from fruits and vegetables. That is why I boil and grind vegetables and fruits and give him as a semi solid paste. My son is also very naughty. I hope he learns in another 6 months.

I am clueless. I have never heard of this. It may be a phase that he will outgrow sooner or later. I think your pediatrician though may be right. If you continue to feed him that way you may never get him to take solids. It may make him not want to eat at first, but he will eventually get hungry. If you are worried about his nutrition mixed liquid vitamins in his drink untill he starts eating solids better. Don't give in to him.

I know this is very rare. I have tried what you have mentioned. He will just eat 2-3 solid eatables for 15-20 minutes keeping it in the mouth and will gulp down when it becomes soft enough to do so. I hope it as just a phase and soon he will start munching. I have to keep my patience. Thanks for the suggestion, friend.
